I'm having a difficult time figuring out the rear e-locker breather location. I attempted to get the metal shield off the locker but I can't get to the top bolt. Maybe lifting the truck would help? I don't have easy access to a lift so was hoping someone could point out the location to me.

I have read several threads and have seen several pictures of the locker, but they seem to have differing information. In one picture the breather seemed to only be 6 inches long. In another thread there was a comment that the breather actually continues into a wire wrap that runs up into the driver side cabin somewhere. If it ran into the cabin, it seems like it wouldn't need to be extended which would be ideal.

Any help would be much appreciated! Cheers!

On my 1999 100 series the rear diff has a 16" black breather hose with a little valve at the top that is supposed to keep the diff from taking on water. It runs off the axle/diff housing on the driver's side and basically heads a bit forward and mostly up to mount on a cross member just forward of the rear axle.

I checked for original photos and found nothing in the archives. I have replaced this with hoses that I ran forward along the frame into the engine compartment up high.

Looking up between the axle and the cross member from the DS ought to allow you to see it fairly well. Hope this helps.

Top of the frame rail on the drivers side center of the wheel well. It will look like a 3/32 line with a vacuum cap on the end of it. The cap is split to give the ability to vent. I extended mine using a piece of vacuum hose routed into the rear quarter along side panel drain terminating at the jack.

@LandCruiserPhil Thanks! So it sits close to where the rear diff breather terminates? Or maybe on the back side of that same frame rail (inside the wheel well)?

I find them terminated on top of the frame most of the time. Sometimes even visible looking in the tire well.

@cmck Check out these threads for some more information. I included an image from online as well. I still haven't found mine so I can't say how accurate that image is. From what @LandCruiserPhil was saying though, it sounds like the breather is actually smaller around than in the image and much longer.

*If image gets taken down at some point, I did a google image search for "Toyota rear e locker" and found a picture that includes a small ~6 inch breather tube on the locker mechanism
