Hey all,
I recall drttduck had this same issue a few months ago but a quick search of the archives shows no results of what he found. so I am not rehashing here this is a new problem.
the ps rear door will not open form the outside or the inside of the vehicle. I already pulled the inner trim panel off ( much easier to get off once you yank the center pillar trim out of your way) and even removed the outer handle to see whta was going on form that side. all of the rods are connected and the latch mechanism is rotating as it should. The lock is engaging adn disengaging as normal but the door will not open no matter what I seem to try. I even tried to manually engage it with a screw driver, it rotated till it hip the stop but still would not open.possible that there is something jammed in there but I doubt it.

so the question is has anyoe else ever seen this one?? also I am a little wary of pounding on the latch too hard unless I have a spare sitting next to me. I am pretty suer I could get the latch broken down to where I could disengage it but I am very sure it will not work again after I try that.

just looking for your thoughts here guys,
Dave

Is it possible there is a problem with the child safety lock? Can't recall if a 91 has one.

NICE AVI Simon.................:D

I think it has a child lock. it is odd that you can't get it with the trim panel off.

Phaedrus-

Your right I did have this similar issue. I did get it fixed but never reported back.

It was pretty much the same as your issue. Read my orginal description in the link here.

After three weeks of driving with the inner door skin off, comes out pretty easy as mentioned above, and trying to figure out how to get the door open about every 3 or 4 days, I had to concede to taking it to a dealer. One day I even took the door of the hinges to try to get the latch to realease at different angels. Not it didn't have anything to do with the child safetly lock.

The dealer diagnosed as broken door latch assembly, or at least partly broken, they had to finish breaking it to get it out. The receipts aren't with me but IIRC the part was about $130 and 2 hours of labor charge to fix.

What was odd was that it worked one evening then did not the next morning.

I felt quite defeated, I was thinking, "I can rebuild a birf by myself, but can't figure out a fing door latch?" My only leveling thought was that this was the first time the LC had been in garage for work other than my own since I've owned it for 5 years.

So not much help here on what to do, but that's how it ended. I spent a few hours poking and proding with long screwdrivers, pry bar, etc. to no avail.

So the next question of course is does anyone have one of these laying in the spare parts pile. if not dan how many pounds of alp for the muts for the latch itself??? I am pretty sure I can get it open by destroying the latch itself but again being able to close it when its done is pretty important too.

Update.....
So I got the door opened, basically inside the latch itself there is a little spirng that rides in a plastic track that makes the actual latch disengage when it is opened. Well the spirng had jammed in the plastic track and made it so the handle did not have enough pressure to disengage the latch. for a temporary fix I cut the spring down ( less tension now) and filed the edges in the track down smooth. back together and working now.
Now is the weird part wich I will be chasing today if I feel ambitious. if the speaker on the ps rear door is hooked up and I close the door the stereo quits working. the head unit is still functioning and all lights are on but no sound will come out. I can open the door and it will start working again. or disconnect the speaker and close the door and it works fine. I tried hittign the door closed sensor but this had no effect on the unit so for now I will have no rt rear speaker in my system

what say ye!!!

Do I have a short in the wiring through the door loom??
FWIW this is a pioneer head unit that routes through the facotry harness and into some polk audio speakers in that door.

as always any thoughts would be appreciated.

I doubt it's a short in the harness as that doesn't change in your testing. I'm thinking it's something to do with the position of the wire when connected to the speeker so that when you close the door it gets shorted to ground. Hope this makes sense.

Yeah thats what I hope it is. ended up cleaning my yard up all day so no time to work on the truck. will dive into it on monday after work. still looking for a latch if anyone has one laying around. or c-dan how much dog food is one of these little beauties??
