Rear disk conversion?

I was wondering if anyone has done a rear disk conversion on an FJ80 or early FZJ with rear drums. I know converting to a FF would probably be more desirable...but if you did it right you could have much better brakes than those little single-piston calipers. Downey makes a kit for FJ62s - any ideas if it would work for these later trucks?

Don't have an answer, but I am curious, is your 93 an FJ80 as opposed to an FZJ80, or is it an FZJ80 with semi floater, rear drums?
 
I bet you could give the guys at BTB Products a call. I did a rear disk conversion on my 1977 FJ40 with one of their kits and it was a simple job. A proportioning valve is also necessary to even out the pressures, and the load sensing adjuster on the 80s may be an issue as well.

My '93 is a FZJ80 with a semi floater - I was just wondering if this could be done. I helped a buddy with a rear brake job and bearing replacement on his '96 - and those rear disks leave a lot to be desired. I didn't now if it was easy as swapping parts and pulling a valve (like a 40) - or it would require a lot of work.

Kinda wanted to put some tech back into this section too - gets a little old reading all these tire and roof rack threads. Hey guys - what's a birfield :flipoff2:

You may have some problems getting your Ebrake to work. If it were me, I'd just find a rear full float to swap in. By the time you buy Caddilac calipers, have the Chevy rotors milled out, buy brakes, new Ebrake cables, etc... You'll be in it probably $400. That money could easily go a long ways for a rear fullfloater. If you think the LC brakes are little to be desired you'll be equally unimpressed with this system.
