I was changing the fluid level in my rear diff in my 2008 LC and was wondering if anyone had experience with how much fluid it typically takes to fill it again. I put almost 5 quarts in before it started to seep out of the fill plug and I believe it was only supposed to take 4 quarts.
Quick Reference Service Guide says 4.4-4.5 US Quarts. But it also has an image of a finger in the hole and the fluid being right at the point where it should start coming out.
Thank you for the advice and the quick reference guide.
Bought the truck used and the manual that came with it didn't have a capacities chart like that one.
Appreciate it. Wish we could get the diesels here in California...
When I change fluid, I drain it on flat ground, then jack up each side (one, then the other to get more fluid to drain out. I did this a few weeks ago and got more than 5 quarts back in.
Also, even without jacking up the truck, you should always drive around a few miles, pop the fill cap off, and put more in. I have always gotten a good amount additional in when doing this, and at least on my 4Runner, the repair/service manual said to do this.
