Tinkering on the truck this morning and found possibly rear diff breather clogged as there is grease and grime around the fitting for the vent hose. i will try and clean or replace breather hose and vent and clean fitting from axle , need to do diff fluids any ways so this gives me another task. Searched multiple forums but did not see leaking from fitting side ?

Seems odd to have it leak there. Maybe the leak is from the threaded fitting into the diff, rather than from the rubber hose to the threaded fitting? You might tighten the fitting into the diff, or remove it and apply sealant and reinstall.

To replace the hose itself, you might get a long piece of fuel line and run a new vent hose way up high and put a small air filter on the end of it.

Thanks for the warning shot.
Both my front and rear were showing signs they'd be clogging up soon, fixed it by pulling off the vent caps and cleaning.
Make sure the all the components, cap, hose, nipple on the housing haven't developed rust and crud stopping proper ventilation.
If the vent stops venting it not functioning will cause axle seals, pinion seals to blow out. Also the collection of debris on the axle lubricant residue that builds up ( what you've got) will gum up the vent cap.
A check of the gear oil is in order to make sure moisture condensation hasn't turned it milky. Milky=Bad.

thank you!! ill be replacing gear oil regardless so now I can clean both breathers. the vent seemed fine on this one (rear) no oil or crud. Will inspect further and sort out. appreciate the reply

Thanks for the suggestions might as well extend the lines since I’m there

a lot of times the hardened hose can slide and the clamp doesn't really make a seal anymore. I bet you can slide it off by hand, or at least twist it around. That enough space for hot gear oil to seep past as it splashes into the hose.
