I am going to get a rear D 60 from a van at pick and pull, what should I be looking for, is one rear better than the other what vans had the desierable ones in them? Thanks for nay help.

If you can find one get a Dana 60 HD. Bascily a D70? in a D60 case. 35 spline and a 1.5" shafts.

Jack Rice aka Medusa did a good wright up on them.

If i see one at the Pull-N-Save I always buy it no matter what. I currently have 3. The wife loves it.

You are hunting for what is probably a white rabbit.
About the only 35 spline D60 rears are in a semifloater.......
There may be one out there that is FF and 35 spline but I do not know a single person that has seen one....

Van D60 rears can also be offset to the PS if you are retaining the stock Tcase. If it is a centered rear output then you will ned to make sure of what you are looking for.

The Van D60's have the larger ID spindles which makes them nice for running 35 spline shafts..

What width are you looking for?? A dually D60 rear out of a truck might be a better choice for you if you do not want something that is wide.

Additionally, the older J20 Jeep pickups had a truly offset D60 that I always thought would go perfectly in a LC..

Don't go looking for 35 spline shafts in a rear 60.. You will hunt for a VERY long time before you find one cheap.

I am going to go with a orion case i have a 465 in now I just didnt know if there is a specific year van 60 that is better than another. I looked at them today and they all have the same D 60 cover but there is allot of different looking housing castings.

YUCK,

NO van d 60s they are a wierd WMS and 90% are dana 61s. they are wider then most trucks

I have gone through at least a DOZEN dana 60HD, NOT one had factory 35 spline axles in it, BUT had big bore spindles and the 65" WMS ( double checked prior to messing with it) that would accept STOCK dana 70 shafts from the same 65" wms. I have the BOMs for these 60hd housings and the bom for the correct d70 axle, somewhere around here.

it might be possible to match a wider 60hd and 70, but i do not know which would work, and personally dont need the wider versions.

BTW 60HD are all over everywhere, just harder to find then regualar 60s.

Dually 60 ? very rare only used in early chevy trucks that i know of, most dually are 70s. Never offered in a cab n chassis style that i know of, so 65" is really the min WMS.

LOL the j20 60, is offset but is pretty wide as well, i believe it was 68", IMO alot harder to find then the 60HD, and couldnt not imagine trying to get parts etc.... for it.

Watch out not all Dana 60HD have the larger spindle bearing to support the larger 1.5in 35 spline shafts, get a light duty stock D70U or 14 bolt they are far superior in strenght then any stock D60.

I sold my D60 HD for a D70HD dually, I needed the extra width to shorten one side to make it offset to fit the stock LC tcase.

enjoy

Yep, the SF offset rear 60 in a J20/30 is a neat axle. It will need to be upgraded wth 35 spline shafts but as a SF axle that is no big deal at all.

I always keep my eye out for one. Bob would do well with a J20 rear.

I found a full floater in a friend's back yard that he gave me for free. No shafts or hubs though.

What kind of hubs would fit on there? Any generic 60 full floaters? I'm going to have the spindles bored for 35 spline.

But they are full width. 67" IIRC.

60 hubs are typically 60 hubs..
So I bet you would be fine.

early dodge and ford used the offsets in the vans... if you go search on pirate in the rover section, you'll find a lot on this, as several went this route. You can also get a rover salisbury rear, which essentially a 60.

Well sort of. They typically had seriously small shafts in them for the D60 ish center section.

And the Rover guys consider them gold.
