Can anyone describe the difference between the 1989 - 1991 and the 1992+ rear bumper end caps on the Hilux/Truck? (not sure exactly what these are called in the US).

Are they interchangeable?

Thanks

EO

Thanks for the information, interesting to know. In my experience the rear bumpers are unusual and were never supplied in the UK (where my Hilux was sold).

Maybe we are talking about different vehicles. Or maybe the parts database is wrong. I have no knowledge about the US market versions of the vehicle, but am very familiar with the same vehicles as sold in Europe and the rest of the world. Globally they were sold as the Hilux, but it seems in the US they were a '4Runner truck'.

Anyway, here is the parts diagram showing the end caps of the bumper. I know they exist as separate parts as I have a pair of the 1988-91 type end caps. The parts are recognised on North American parts websites which pretty much means they were supplied on some US market vehicles.

Thank you. My questions were genuine - different models get different names in different markets and I wanted to check my understanding.

I was starting to suspect that the rear one-piece bumpers in US pickups might be dealer-fitted and the useful link which you shared confirms it. The part numbers starting 02 are dealer-supplied and are not Japanese factory-supplied parts.

Thanks for your help on this one. Looks like I might need to try an Australian forum to answer the question.

I've had an 84, 85, 86, 87, 88, 90, 91 and 93 two and four wheel drive Toyota "pickups" and the rear bumpers were one piece like @gnob mentioned. However, our 86 4Runner had that bumper shown above in that parts diagram. Good luck with your search.

When I looked up parts for my pickup on Amayama, I was confused the first time I used the site. I put in my VIN and it comes up under 4Runner. Only when I input my model number did it specify that my truck is a pickup and I was able to find the correct parts. Some parts listed even needed my build date to get the correct version.

Yes, I only see entries for '4Runner Truck' but this covers both full bodied vehicles and pick-ups.

Just ran outside to look at mine. Rear is all one piece. Canadian truck. There was a three piece bumper on the front, for 89-91, but then I think they switched to an all one piece on the front as well. I threw mine away when I got an ARB.

I often have to click on the 4Runner section at Toyota dealer websites and aftermarket, just like Aztoyman mentioned for Amayama. Then later it will separate into truck versus 4Runner.
