I'm working on restoring a '72 FJ40 and I've figured out why the PO dumped gallons upon gallons of bedliner in the rear bed. It has been acting as a bridge between the wheel wells as the bed itself is completely rusted through.

So......I get to pull my credit card out again today :bounce:. I found a replacement online at cc but it seems pricey and a 6 week lead time??? (I just need the bed - the wheel wells, floor pans, etc. are all in pretty good shape). Does anyone know my best option from price / quality / lead time standpoint to replace the bed?

Thanks.

Do you weld? :D

Cargo Floor Replacement <<<<< This is a link!

That link will take you to my site where I made my own floor panel for cheap. Be prepared for lots of hard, dirty work getting the old floor out... ;)

If you want a bed with the original ribbing then you only have a few choices. If the ribbing is not critical then check out coolermans site and see what he did for replacement. He did an extremely nice job of completely rebuilding his FJ while still on the frame!

I believe I found a Canadian co a few years ago remanufacturing a variety of sheet metal parts. They had a bed panel which was quite nice. I'll try and find you a link later tonite. I lost all past links in Jan, with a harddrive crash.

coolerman!!! you beat me to the punch! I love to check out your site when I'm stuck inside and need a cruiser fix!!

My neighbor is a welder - he made me sell my little 110 lincoln after he inspected the "welds" i did on the roll cage in my 71 bronco. It was pretty pitiful.....Had he not saved me, i probably would have been knocked unconcious after hitting my first pothole.

Looks like I'm going the prefab route - found one at real steel cruiser parts for $300 plus shipping, has ribbing looks to be decent quality?

Damn! If the site is that popular maybe I should set up a subscription service to access the site. Hmmmm $.99 per access? Might be able to buy my girl a new pair of shoes... :grinpimp:

Seriously guys, I appreciate the support concerning the web site. Lots of folks share info here on MUD, it's why I come here.

Poser has never failed to share his mechanical knowledge and he has cool write-ups...
Jim C. keeps us all set straight on ignitions, emmisions and carbs...
Pin_Head keeps us informed on electrical systems and other items...
Mark A. is a pure gold mine of all Cruiser knowledge plus he has parts...
Johnny C and Lamp Pimp have provided me with hours of brochure viewing pleasure...

Heres to them... :beer: :beer::beer:

You will still have to weld it in. :D

Real Steel has some parts that are great, some that could use some work. Regardless, you will have to fab the part into your truck. I would go for it.

I bought a bed (and a ton of other body parts) for my 79 from Iron Pig (IPOR.) Great customer service and shipped right away. Give them a shot.

If you're concerned with strength, and not originality, have one bent from 3/16" diamond plate. If you have steel fabricators in the area, they can duplicate the shape and it'll be plenty strong. It's been a few years, but the last one I did like that cost me 85.00.

Yeah, trying to keep it as clean and stock as possible, i ordered the real steel - i'll let you guys know how it turns out.

And Coolerman - Ain't no way i'm welding this baby, that's why they have guys like you that know what the heck they're doing! I learned my lessons on the 71 Bronco, i never liked fords anyway.
