Yeah,
The wifes not happy with the woody removal...
Im a little bummed about it to.
I still have yet to get it all off.
Ive been doing some research about removal compounds and have come up with some interesting stuff that I might try.

A cheap and easy:
WD40 and a credit card....
apply a liberal amount of WD40 to the sticker let soak and scrape off with a credit card of some sort.

Same as above, but use a heat gun.
Ive been using the torch and apparently is a little too agressive and can burn the paint.

3M apparently makes a woodgrain and stripe adhesive remover that you spray on and let sit, then just scrape the sticker off....They have it at NAPA and can be had for 16 bucks.

Another one said to use ammonia, cover with some kind of plastic and let sit and scrape.

Just thought Id share...I found it to be somewhat useful information.

Of course, you would have treat the sruface afterwards for the above applications, and also may have some residual adhesive to contend with...

Ill post up the route I go and let you all know how it works.

Chicago...I've been in the sign industry for about 12 years...removed way too many stickers....
Your best option is heat it up and peel it off. None of the magic liquid things work....Put it this way..if it's strong enough to eat through vinyl that is 20 years old...it'll eat the paint as well.

The wd40 method just sound like a mess. I prefer my hands to stay dry so I can actually grab the vinyl. I use a torch as well (instant on/off works great) and a small squeege called a lil' chisler. It has a good edge to get under the sticker.

If you can't find one locally at a sign shop for like $1...let me know and I'll send you one in payment for your excellent SOA thread :D

Being in the sign industry----how much would wood grain vinyl cost? or even better disco stripes!

Chicago- ever hear of GOOF OFF ? My buddy used it when he pulled the stripes off of his taco. It dissolved /ate/vaporized the glue residue pretty good. Your truck work is an inspiration to rust jockeys everywhere.

Thats a good point that I didnt think of...the paint is of course a concern.
Im having a great deal of difficulty with the removal of the decal just under the gas door where gas has spilled for 20 years...its cracked, dried out and britle and I cant seem to get the torch to do much of anything of value as far as removal is concerned...its on there pretty good.
Do you have any recommendations for that?

Thanks for the offer on the lil' chisler. Ill check the body shop locally and see.
Thanks a bunch for the compliment on the SOA thread...I wanted to write a complete log of the build as it happened so it might help the others here. It makes me happy to hear that you thought it was helpful. It was worth the effort just to know that!

Thanks for your help,

Chicago

Did it F up the paint?

Paints seems fine to me . no discolorations or bubbling.

I stopped at NAPA and picked up some "woodgrain and stripe remover" tried it on my old door that I replaced...
It actually did OKAY!
Didnt touch the paint, the paint is fine and it did get a fair amount of the decal off. Ill try to use it on the stubborn area I mentioned above that is below the filler door.
However, Im gonna continue on with what adamsclarke recommended and "heat and pull"!
That seems to be the fastest way to get this crap off!
Ill be able to finish the DS chop and liner this weekend!

Then I get to start the bumper build and do some welding on REAL material!:bounce::bounce2::bounce::bounce2:

Thanks for watching!
