So I'm up in the woods in Northern Michigan and went to start my truck this morning and ran into a issue I've never had.

Truck stalls and won't hold idle and the abs/brake lights are on and the brake alarm is on. Rode totally fine onthe 7 hour drive from Wisconsin to the campground. I did previously have a check engine light on for a bad front o2 sensor. Changed both front o2 sensors couple days before we left. It did throw a check engine light while driving and I thought maybe one of the sensors maybe but now I'm wondering what's going on.

Any ideas at what I can look at before I have it towed somewhere. The stalling and the abs issue made me wonder what it could be that ties those together. Vacuum issue maybe? I can keep it started if I give it gas and keep rpms up but the abs stays lit and it feels like I have no power brakes. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

No vacuum for our brakes. I haven’t changed an O2 sensor, but is there a chance you bumped any wire connections loose in the process, or had a critter chew on something overnight?

It's a campground so critter is definitely possible. Only time I moved it in last 3 days was just to switch parking spots yesterday morning and it was totally fine. We were just heading out this morning when this went down so we just jumped in a buddy's truck. I'll be back there around lunch to start digging into it. Of course I didn't pack my scanner so that's a problem. May run into town and buy one if need be. Disconnected battery before I left to see if reseting system might help. Keep ideas coming tho. I'm stressed.

ABS shuts down at first sign of any engine issue.

The bad O2 may have been clue to upstream issue, unresloved.

Having a code read would be so helpful. If you don't have one ask around the campground.

This issue could be as simple as chewed wires, bad fuel pump, cam or crank sensors, throttle body issue or as serious as a blown head gasket, etc...

First, I'd check engine coolant and oil level & condition.

Second, With engine cover off, look over vacuum lines and wires.

Thanks @2001LC

Will definitely start exploring once I get. Finding a code reader might be first task. Lots of off roaders (mostly side by sides) in campground so hopefully somone has one.

Sorry for so long before i could respond. Bad cell service.

So the codes I am getting are p0155 and p0135. At first it stalled right after it would start once I hooked battery up. After it threw the codes it starts and idles fine.

Oil and coolant and all plugs including the new o2 sensors look good.

For the brake alarm and sound I was under hood and just bumped the top of the metal cylinder brake booster with the heel of my hand and all of the sudden it clicked on and ran for about 20 seconds and the alarm and abs light went out and brakes are back to normal.

I’ve been wracking my brain for what could be underlying issue for both and came up empty. The only thing I thought back to was that I had the windshield replaced about 2 months ago. So I pulled back floor mat and the carpet is damp. We drove thru a big storm Wednesday on the long drive. So I guess I’ll be contacting windshield shop. I suspect they didn’t rivet the side moldings correctly back in place and water is leaking in there.

I could see this explaining the o2 codes maybe but I have a hard time seeing it cause the brake booster issue that got fixed with a bump from my hand on top of it.

I think it should be good to drive home Sunday but am somewhat concerned. Would appreciate any thought anyone has about either issue. Thanks for the quick suggestions Really love this community.

Bumping brake master and booster motor starting by doing so. May indicate wire chewed/short or dead spots on commutator. This is dangerous. As you never know when bushes land on dead spot of commutator, than booster motor will not fire. This means booster pressure not brought back up as it's depealted. Loss of brake could result.

Sorry I forgot to update this post once I got home. I hate when people do that. After testing it out for a day on some dirt roads and having the brake booster not fire up twice and having to bump it again to get it started it happened a third time and I could not get it going again(at least not as easily). Instead of messing with it anymore I decided to take @2001LC advice and not risk it and I called my wife and had her come pick up the kids and I with her lx570. Rented a one way tow dolly for 100 bucks and loaded it up and removed the rear driveshaft and towed it home.

Once home I removed the whole mc assembly and took the motor off. It's definitely seen better days. Contacted Andy Le(found his name and contact info in another thread. Really nice guy) and shipped it off to him earlier this week for a rebuild of the whole unit. Luckily I have an extra vehicle to use while I'm waiting for it to get returned.

Once I get that back on and operational I'll dig into what's causing the check engine light. Hopefully I'll be able to track that down.

Thanks for all the advice.

I’ll be in the same boat soon. Getting the alarm about 1 out of 15 start ups. Loading up techstream to confirm it’s not anything else but I’m sure it’s the motor about to go. If you don’t mind me asking what did he charge for the whole rebuild? Honestly I’d like to just get the motor rebuilt if it’s really high for the while unit.

I think it was 650 plus shipping. From what I can tell he did a great job. Unit has worked flawlessly since I finally got time to put it back on. Did a few hundred mile trip last week and all was good. He was great with communication and sent me before and after pics as well.

Good to know. I typically try to do everything myself but that’ll probably be worth it. Thanks
