while doing my cv's I did not line up the tulip and race, upon greasing and installation full range of motion seemed okay.
How do you put it back together if you lost your marks?
Especially if everything seems to be working fine?

Thoughts, don't want to fire car up and drive if I am facing impending disaster.

Other than drive nothing to be done at this point. If fails, will usually gives plenty of warning (vibration & sound) and thousands of miles.

Put it back together and I doubt you will notice any problems and you will not face any major issues. What's lost is lost. It should be fine. The only alternative is to buy a new one for about $365.00. Or a lesser replacement for about $65.00 at a major auto parts store.(Not a good idea)

I did mine and didn't mark them and they are both ok after 8,000 miles. No problems at all.

I've never marked my CV when disassembling it. I usually just stuff it back together and call it a day. If you forgot a part, you need to take it back apart.

One way to check it it rotates smoothly is to lay it on the tailgate with either end hanging off the back. Roll the assembly while bending the joint in each and every way. If something isn't lined up and catches, it will stop your hand and not the front end at 50mph.

^ This. Done it twice on both sides without problems. In theory you always want to match wear surfaces when you're re-using parts. However, it's not like you can label the balls anyway so in this particular application it doesn't really matter.

matching balls!!

I was not sure why it would matter, because I figured if you were really concerned about wear pattern wouldn't you match Balls?:p

update drove it around seems okay.
about to tackle the other side 7pm pst.
will try to post when done

see how long it takes me.
