Rebooting my cv axle passenger side, tried setting the diff side first then pulled the cv axle out to reposition and saw something like a metal rubber band hanging, what is this??? Did I screw something up, can it be reset?

That is part of the seal. It goes inside the lip and is a pain to put back in. Don't bother putting the axle back in till you fix it or replace the seal.

Looks like you need a new seal.

Thanks for your quick response! Is it easier to remove the seal at the diff opening to reset this ring? If not I presume the seal will still need to be removed for the new one so worth a try?

I removed the seal and was able to re-assemble the spring on the inner side!
Back on track, I ordered a seal just for back up, rebooting about every 50k Anyway. Going with clamp style vs. OEM bands supplied with boot kit this time. Thank you guys, appreciate your help, have a nice weekend!

You may regret not replacing the seals. Not a big dollar item.

Just curious. How'd you even get the seal out without tearing it to shreads?

I went ahead and replaced both after all,
I carefully pried it out with large screwdriver. Came out pretty easy.

I find a paint can opener worked great when removing the crank seals. Lol
