Is there a trick/special tool to install the spring loaded reproduction wiper arms onto the shafts? My '74 was sans wipers when I bought it so don't know what the originals looked like, but the replacements from CC have a very stiff spring that makes them a real bugger to install and I boogered up the splines in one of the new ones.

Open them first. It may take a couple of tries to get them clocked right.

A vice is very handy for cocking them. Yea the pot metal is weak. Clean the wiper, the stud and nut with like brake clean. Put several coats of release agent on stud/nut letting it dry in between. Put some metal filled epoxy putty in the wiper where the spline are. Install the cocked wiper in place in the correct position - tighten it up some to seat it. Wait for 75% of the epoxy set time, carefully remove the wiper. Clean the stud and nut - let it all cure overnight.

Are those the wiper arms that came on your 40? Those are completely different than my re-pops I got from CC. That style looks vastly better than what I have. Mine don't "cock" back like that, they're solid with an extremely stiff spring inside the arm to hold the blade tight against the windshield. Which makes them extremely difficult to install which is why I ruined the pot metal splines on one of them. Also the spring tension of the wipers cause the wipers to move very, very slow. I think I wasted money on the ones I bought...

Who is CC? I don’t see 1974 wiper arms on CCOT and the CruiserCrap website doesn’t work any longer.

CC= Cruiser Corps

So they have a generic 1968-1984 arm. From the photo, it looks like they could be cocked.

9/72 - 12/74 use a specific arm. P/N 85190-90301. Obviously long NLA.

SOR might have some used ones.

Yeah, those are the ones I ordered. They can't be cocked back. I also ordered the OEM wiper blades with them, and the OEM blades won't fit on the arms without lots of die grinder work. I think there should have been some disclaimer or something about that.

In spite of being, BY FAR, the best looking of the FJ40 wiper blades, they were a short run. So I think they are hard to find now.

I don’t see any listed on CruiserParts.net, but I’d give them a call. If not, I believe SOR shows some but they won’t come cheap with the limited availability. Looks like they don’t have any used ones left, either. But again, you could give them a call.

I've got a couple if you're looking for some OEM ones. No blades, just the arms.

Mine don’t have that big screw on the end.

I think those are the ones that ran thru 1972.

My apologies for the pic quality, but maybe this will help. See part I'D as 85190, "arm assy, windshield wiper". As others have said, I would get in touch with some of the vendors on here or place an ad in the classified section.

They look great. I now know that those are what mine came with is it had one of the wiper arm nuts on one of the shafts. I also have a can of that OEM color. How much and how do I pay you?

Yes, these are my original 1974 wipers.
