Rattle Can Painting

I have a Blue 62 with a little rust. I am going to fix the rust myself. It is not real persausive, but needs to be done.

The paint on the rig is in excellent condition, so I would like to just paint what is needed. I saw on another thread about the places to buy rattle cans that match. So...

After I am done with the body work, I will of course prime the area. The problem I have always had when doing this is that I do not know how to properly fade the area in. I either get a tape line or funy looking overspray.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

I'll 2nd that. Never stop mid-panel on a recoat. Do the whole panel, as posted.

X2.....It's damn near impossible to make it match, with the whole panel it blends in better.

I heard from a paint place that the rattle can colors seldom match like the standard paint you purchase.

When I sealed my gutters I went with the rattle can route to finish it all off. Very close but you can tell its not a perfect match.

One of the main reasons why paints don't match exactly even when you get the same color code is that paints fade over time. Even if the paint is in excellent condition it still changes color over time. Blue is one of the most difficult colors to match especially if its been on a vehicle for a number of years. Paint the whole panel, it won't match exactly, but it will be harder to tell.

just get a cheap hvlp gun (HF or the like) and spray it with reasonable paint..

If it's Sky blue (Smurf blue) Ace Hardware safety blue is almost a perfect match

here in town theres a place that takes your paint code and puts it in a rattle can



so awesome i fixed all the rust in my gutters and blended it down my pillars and its PERFECT
im so happy i could cry
