Picked up an '01 RangeRover off of CL for $300 with BAD knocking at 150k (eyeroll). All I really wanted it for was the seats to put in my LC. Just wondering if anybody had any ideas of anything else worth stripping off of it before it goes to the wreckers.

not actual rig, just for reference.

Toolkit? Owners manuals? Floor mats? Put em on ebay?

Too bad it didn't run a bit better, would have been fun to finish it off. Or dukes of hazard the thing, or...

Does this truck have one of those motors where they glued a cast iron cylinder wall into a cast aluminum block?

Too bad you couldn't just stuff a 350 in there...

These things are self decomposing time-bombs LOL. If I'm going to all that trouble, I'd LS the LC.

Is this even a question? Is this even a thread in a Land Cruiser forum?

The end is apparently near.
The end is probably near. But it's still not certain how or when it will come. I may be forced to know something about other trucks after the first gang of hoods takes my Land Cruiser in the first wave of the apocalypse.

So are the electrical systems in these just duds and the motors blow, or is it deeper than that?

It was just a question ;) I am not saying I want another money pit, but it seems like a truck like that should last more than 17 years. Are they really just garbage?
In short; yes. My brother in-law owned a 2008ish Discovery. Was in the shop more then he had it. It was cool because he always had a different dealer loaner car. You never new what he would pull up in at family gatherings. What he never pulled up in was the actual Discovery. I only saw it one time. On it's 3rd motor (still under warranty) he left it at the dealer and never went back. It was written off under the lemon law after a multi month legal battle. That was his first LandRover and his last. Land Rovers are about as common as our Cruisers yet every pick-a-part I have seen has multiple Land Rovers. A cruiser in a pick-a-part is as common as a unicorn. Now, back to the topic. Let's see pics of these seats. Any idea how difficult it will be to fit them into your cruiser?

Thanks for the response. I wonder about them because my buddy has an '04 Disco that he has been dumping a ton of money into and he has already had to "rebuild" the motor once. He seems to think it's a sweet truck though. I would much rather have my 80. I think it's a far superior vehicle, I was just curious about a competing model. I know a guy that has a nice 1980 Defender and even that has major motor problems. He says it's easy to just toss an updated motor into it though and I guess that is what he is going to do. Toyota motors seem stronk to me. I have rarely had any engine work needed on the vast majority of the 20 or so Toyota products I have owned.

I know someone who paid a junk yard to take one. I think they were pretty smart when he said "how much would it cost to get you to come get this thing" they said 150 and probably had a good laugh and some beer. These are not great vehicles but like anything they hold a value to some one. So you have things you want to do on your 80 that cost money too, so sell the wheels, tires, radio, floor mats, head lights, fenders, sun visors, glass, airbags etc, just sell them cheaper than other people to get it over with. Whatever is left that you can't sell or will be too much work to be worth it, ask for 50 dollars from a crap yard and make them pick it up on a flat bed. Take that money and buy something nice for the cruiser or taco. I hear the cup holders are the only good thing to keep out of them. ... also battery might be good and extra battery cables, fuses etc aren't bad to have around.

The only nice thing I can say about them other than looks, is the sound deadening. HOLY s***. While pulling/cutting up the carpet to get the harnesses for the seats I was amazed. It was like standard carpet but with a stiff under coating and probably 1 1/4" of a dense rubber foam.

As far as the seats I don't have a pic of them right now. The are in good shape. Gonna get new covers from Lseat in a matching color to the rest of the LC. Super comfy, and fully power adjustable with fold down arm rests.

The look like this...

So far I took: seats, big chuck of large gauge loom, batt-cables, 4 computers, some aftermarket box that plugs inline to the ECM to bypass some suspension feature, found a $20, took some aftermarket lights off the front, and took a swingout hitch rack off that came on it which was awesome on my latest trip in the Runner. Definately hoping to sell the computers. Had 2 for the transmission, the ECM, and one for the adjustable ride height system.

@goaticus can you donate it to Dirt Everyday so we can watch what gets done to it?
