An 80, in its element...

We had a great time yesterday, I have no photos.
Thanks much to Izzy for bailing out the canceled Gulches trip and showing us some new trails.
I really did not think of it much until John mentioned it standing on the side of the road saying our goodbyes, but we spent at least 9-10 hours in the truck yesterday. Amazing how tiring that can be.
Our new trail dog got sick a couple times on the trip, Heather did some research and it seems to be the norm and should stop as he ages.

I am looking forward to the May Hurricane Creek trip!

Getting truck cleans up and heading to Firestone to reset bead, started loosing pressure on trail, must have hit something with wheel weight, stabilized enough to continue, but this morning was down again. So an ounce of prevention...

Got to keep your weapons clean, "remain healthy to train and fight" as in the old creed. Besides, I am a prima donna first class.
So, where we going next?

I have not even looked at the truck. I'll be cleaning it later this afternoon I am sure.

One of these days I'll be done with exams and be able to join more often. Count me in for Hurricane Creek trip. Though I won't be able to take that Friday off.

Looks like I need to add richland road to my list of trails to hit! Awesome!

I am running Richland for the first time with one of my Heep friends on the 25th. I have a guy with a stock 4runner that is interested and since Ive never been I don't know what to tell him as far as difficulty. Ive seen the videos and pictures but sometimes they can make challenging terrain look tame. Any insight would be helpful. Thanks

stock 4runner 4wd or 2? street tires or AT? What year and does it have trail electronics? 2WD I would not recommend, street tires may damage. Otherwise, stock will be fine otherwise

2010 Limited 4wd with GY Duratracs, I'm pretty sure it has ATRAC(I think all 5th gens do) but no Trail aids.

Hes is on a trip from ontario to New Orleans, so I just dont want to screw up his trip by getting him into something he isnt expecting.

He should be able to breeze through then, with those specs. If you want some company let me know, I may be able to go pending kids spring break schedules (3 different schools with different schedules)

The more the merrier as far as I'm concerned. Our plan was to head up around 8:00AM, hit Richland and then some of the Pisgah FSR. We would love to have someone who has run it before so just let me know if it works out.

@Izzyandsue ...follow up question to the above. Over my kids' spring break (3/19-3/27) I'm going to be in this general area.
If I spring this trail on my wife in her bone stock 2015 Trail Premium edition, how likely is divorce? Is there ever a hint at potential body damage, 'cuz that would be the deal breaker on this truck for at least the next 7 years?

hahaha - this post made me laugh in regards to the divorce and 7 years.... :)

Jim, if you air down properly, should have no problems either there or SFR 192, both cool trails. 192 does have vegetation that can pinstripe it. Otherwise, some cool off-camber and cross axle areas, and truck will get wet and dirty. I also want to explore trails near Mortimer, I see the Land Rubber club goes there too but dont know which trails or roads they use

PK, being in Wingate you probably drive near me (Matthews) on the way there, we can coordinate later. The loop we ended up doing is Richland - BBQ place - 192 (through Blowing Rock) - Old 105 (through Linville Falls). Email me if you want the GPX files and you can see, there are camping locations mapped along 105, some of them had phenomenal views of the Linville Gorge.

Really? You have an 84 month loan on that thing?
No. Like me, It's Sarah's until it's too old for her love any more.
After that, it's mine.
There was method to the madness when HER Christmas present came with a factory rear locker. ;)
