GULCHES IS CLOSED THIS WEEKEND DUE TO FLOODING IN THE LOWER AREAS.

Does somebody want to suggest an alternate trip? Is there anything to do that is still within 2.5 hours from CLT and the coastal folks?

Bummer - I was really looking forward to this trip.

Dang. That's a tough find for 2.5 hours off the coast would be Uwharrie, tough to find with my experience. One suggestion would be Richland Rd, then SR1530 with stop in between. But I can't think of anything like Gulches for "challenge". Maybe return on old 105 from Linville, all can be done in a day, I think.

I can't speak for @dbenke or @Yardboy but it looks like I'm out.

Traveling further than Gulches just isn't in the cards for me this weekend.

Any place in SC you would recommend? I am just not familiar with the area, but willing and able.

No - I know of nothing in SC. I've spent hours looking for for places to ride in SC and can't find anything legal other than Gulches. I can't camp because I've got a new baby at home, otherwise I'd be open to stretching out the distance and spending Saturday night somewhere.

I was about to post up that I couldn't come anyway. Had a giant tree come down in the storm yesterday and crush my storage building. Have to get that somewhat sorted on Saturday.

This all might have to be the plan, Izzy. Can you put together a route and estimated duration?

Is Black Balsalm open?

Did it bust your still? :p

Would like to try Richland road with some snow on it.

If Forest does it, I got his back.

We can drive Richland, 2 hours should be conservative accounting for required photo stops and pulling whoever gets stuck. Then its a 50 min drive to the edge of 1530 (SFR 1920) where it connects to blue ridge parkway, then 1-1.5 hours to drive that route. From there 15 min drive to the edge of old 105, drive that home. 105 is 1 hour to the Lake James Park , then home. Depending how early we start Richland we can do it all.

Past drives we met up near the entrance by 9 am. We could meet at Mountain Stop (4220 Blowing Rock Blvd, Lenoir, NC ) convenience at 9am

SFR 192 is not long, but cool. Most of it is like below, then gravel towards the end.

OK. Sarah and I are in for what Izzy said. How about 8:00am at the first gas station on the right of 321, right off exit 17 on 85? That seems to be the first common point that we all pass, then it's an hour to Mountain Stop where we can meet anybody coming from a different route, if they come.

@NCFJ Any interest in this modified itinerary?

I am interested, have to see about Heather. Not familiar with exit 17 but I am sure we can find it.

It's the Gastonia exit for 321. Head North on 321. Gas station is approx 1/8 mile on right.

Don't confuse it with the one across the street on the southbound side!

Have fun and be safe out there. Hope to meet up for a ride with y'all at some point in the future!

I am good with the above. Will like to add that at any of the trail ends, anyone can peel off if you need to leave early. So think of this as a modular trip, 3 modules, you can stay for one, 2, or all of it. Gotta to love flexibility.
