Too far north. Too far east.
I took a radiator in to have fixed a few months ago to a shop called Marin's that was recommended by Performance Radiator (who don't do repairs any more). Well, it's leaking at the bottom tank. I would take it back to the guy that did the work, but he was a bit shady. Didn't give me a receipt and insisted on cash. So I took the radiator to another shop today, A-1 on San Mateo. They told me the radiator could not be repaired, and offered to sell me a new one. Ummmm. BS I call.

So, anybody have a recommendation? I need to get this fixed before I leave for Baja.

Many Many years ago I took my FJ45 to a radiator shop on 12th near Candelaria. I will drive by tomorrow and see if they are still there. They fixed it and I drove the FJ45 hard for another three years which towed my landscaping trailer.

I usta see a 55 pulling a landy trailer, was that you as well?

Jon:

I use Walker Radiator on Juan Tabo. They have fast service, haven't been shady, and haven't had a problem doing the silly things I want to the radiator (like moving the inlets/outlets, etc...).

The only problem I've had with them is that we had the 40 radiator rebuilt (with 4 cores) and moved the inlet to the left side, somewhere along the lines it developed a leak before I installed it. I have no doubt that they'll make it right when I pull it back out and bring it back.

They've done our Dodge radiators, fixed the mini-22RE radiator, modded the faux-lux radiator, and the 40 radiator for us.

Walkers was a choice if I didn't have any, as usual, great advice here. I took the radiator to J&B. They had it for two days, but clearly did a better job than Marin's. I just literally topped off the radiator and will take it for a putt here in a little bit.

This was in the 4Runner. Da'40 has a new 4-row.

Back in the day when I had no money (I guess I'm living back in the day again, but that's a separate discussion) my old 40 radiator developed leaks along the solder seam on the top and around the top outlet. Not wanting to take it to the spendy NorCal shops where I was living I drained and pulled it, used a propane torch to melt away the old solder, used steel wool and then an acid etch to clean the mating surface, applied a good flux and resoldered everything with the torch. Thing was leakproof for years through the time I sold it. This is low tech stuff and the system only needs to hold something like 9 - 14 psi before blowing past a correctly functioning cap. Point is, for those with more money than time, take it to a recommended shop. Anybody else with no tango dinero, it can be done successfully under the shade tree in the backyard for pennies as long as the mating surfaces are clean.

For years there was a yellow-on-black 55 pulling a landy trailer around the westside. Sounded like it had an "X"F with a spicey exhaust. Always wanted to get a chance to chat but the encounters were always glancing blows on the surface streets. Haven't seen it in at least 2 years or more...

Bumping an old thread to the top! Is Walker Radiator shop still highly recommended or is there someone else? I need to take a customer's super duper custom radiator to a shop to fix some leaks.

Thanks.

I'm still pleased with the work J&B did.

@LX450JC did you have recent success with J-B on Edith? Heard a bad story from a Chevy guy
Other local options for a radiator pressure test and repair?

Eh it was decent. Nothing great to recommend. I'm actually looking to get a heater core pressure tested and a dent taken out of a fuel tank so let me know if you find anyone you'd recommend.

I went to Walker's recently. Nothing foul to report.

On Juan Tabo? Crazy I was told they closed up a few years ago. I'll head there for sure thanks!

Walkers is unresponsive yesterday and today, not even voicemail. Talking to @LX450JC I was thinking of going by, but if I can't raise them on the phone now I don't wanna be playing that game when they have my radiator
