Just a thought....

This is what I am planning to do to it once I get it. Perhaps you could integrate it, your call.

I was just going to drill a guide hole from the sleeve to one of the jaws. Then slide in a clevis pin. That way if there is an accident with enough force to brake it free, the pin will keep one jaw fixed thus trapping the bottle.

Sorry the drawing is stupid, I'm on a laptop and don't want to spend forever on it.

Unfortunately there isn't enough material there to do that. The shoulder bolt runs all the way through the clamp and there is only 1/8" of material before you hit the shoulder bolt. Let me think on it some more...

Just below the bolt is where the spring is. Last night I began drafting up a design for a lock that I think everyone will like. I'll see if I can get it finished up this afternoon and post up a few renderings.
 
I know this has been asked before, but where are you planning to mount this thing? I'd hate to mount this sturdy mount with something as flimsy as a piece of nylon rope.

If it had a dedicated spot and mounting holes already drilled I would be in for one.

Where and how it is mounted will have to be up to you. I can't accommodate for every vehicle out there, so you will have to decide what works best for you in your vehicle. You can drill holes through the back plate to bolt it directly to a flat surface, or you can use a u-bolt to clamp it to a roll cage.

Mounting it with nylon rope would surely be a bad idea. If you were referring to the strap in the picture, that was only there for me to have something to hold onto when demonstrating the functionality without the clamp being mounted as I described in the post with the pic.
 
Here's the locking mechanism. It attaches to the extinguisher and allows you to lock and unlock the clamp halves by turning the lever 180 degrees. I have no idea how much it will cost to manufacture, but luckily there's not any welding or bending involved. Just a bunch of flat pieces cut on the waterjet.

Yikes, that's complicated and expensive looking. How about just a double pin that you can pull, utilizing those same holes?
 
I agree with you there yooper. It seemed much simpler in my head but it grew in complexity despite my best attempts to keep it simple. I have a couple more ideas I plan to explore today.
 
Use NLXTACY's pin idea but place it parallel to the clamp hinge pin. Design the base plate and clamps so that the safety pin can be place in either of the four corners for max mounting options. That make sense from my description? I don't have any fancy CAD programs.
 
A u shaped pin with maybe a ring shaped handle would work fine.

Only one side needs a keeper, which can be a pin or spring loaded ball.

You could also orient your holes horizontally instead of vertically and use a single pin.

Good idea. To clarify what I think you're saying: design in a vertical pin hole on the back of each clamp that aligns with holes in the mount.

Yes, I'm going to assume a single pin on one side or the other would lock both due to internal mechanical linkage. Otherwise I guess you could install two pins and string them together for a single pull for release? Anyway the additional material would be in minimum. Clamp could be supplied without pins to keep cost down?
 
Plus got these in to add to my pin releases.

....in other words....I REALLY want a good mounting solution.
