Depending on final price- might be in for a few 2-4...;)

Just a little update here, I spoke with the shop that is going to be cutting and bending all of the parts for the base of the unit, and they have quoted a price for the welding of the side plates to the center section which is the same price that I had figured it would cost me to do it. This will speed up the process quite a bit since I am regularly out of town for work, and should provide a better looking weld than I'm sure I'm capable of.

I'll be headed back home from work this coming Monday the 14th and should have three weeks or so off. Once I've had a chance to speak with my patent attorney and my accountant to iron out a few details, I think we'll be ready to make this an official group buy!

I got home from work yesterday afternoon and managed to get down to the company who will be doing the casting this afternoon. We discussed exactly how we're going to cast the part and ironed out the last few details. Tomorrow... Accountant and patent attorney (hopefully).

Have you done tests of cast vs billet aluminum? This is what my company does all day everyday. You really should consider the amount of energy required to snap cast vs aluminum. We do. We only make parts that don't have massive loads out of cast to reduce costs. Anything mission critical is always billet. A 70mph accident holding a 2.5# fire extinguisher may do unexpected things.

Here's an example of what we design and manufacture all day so I'm not just talking out of my ass.

Yes, I have considered billet and it was my first choice. However, my best quote to have the clamp halves machined was $90 for each half which would cause the clamp to have a cost well over $200. I don't think anybody would be interested if that were the case. I beefed up the thickness of the clamp to accommodate for it being cast as well. Thanks for the pics, I like shiny things :) Is that sound stage equipment in the last pic?

No, that is an uber module we designed and manufactured for the RED camera. It's called the Meizler Module. Kitchen sink kind of thing.

As promised, I spoke with the patent attorney today, and I have sent an email to my accountant but I have not heard back from him just yet. It's the really busy time of year for those guys so it may be a day or two, but he's usually really good about responding.

I want to thank everyone here for their patience, I am just trying to do things the right way and don't want to get ahead of myself where I end up disappointing someone.

Subscribed and interested in one possibly two.

By the way. What type of accommodations have been made for mounting? Countersink holes for two or four SHCSs?

I'd be in for one if you can keep it near your current price point. maybe a special price for 2??

I haven't provided any holes for mounting as each situation will be different depending on where and how you mount it. You can drill either two or four holes through the back plate to bolt it down, or to use a one or two U-bolts for attaching it to a roll bar. If someone wants holes pre-drilled, and they have the exact hole size and dimensions for locating them, I'm sure I could take care of that for them for a couple of bucks.

I know it's been a few days since I've updated anyone and I apologize for that. I have managed to talk to the patent attorney and the accountant, as well as file with the state so I can officially do business! However I have to make a decision about the tooling to have the cast parts made. Coincidentally, the tooling cost is the same as the cost of the 3d printer I'm looking to purchase. The manufacturer is running a few sample prints of the tooling I designed and shipping them to me to inspect. If they will work, I'll purchase the printer and I can then make tooling for all different size part to be cast rather than have to dish out tons of cash for each different size part to have the tooling made. The downside is that both options have a 6-8 week lead time.

Definitely interested in at least one.

If this goes well you should consider a 5lb extinguisher model.

Mounting this with the clamp facing rearward should eliminate most accident issues if one was worried about the clamp strength.

Gotcha!

1. Clutchee 1
2. Bomar 1
3. 80ways 1
4. yooper 3
5. Kajun 1
6. richxd87 1
7. Corbet 1

Throw me down for one. I wanna play with it. If it holds up the way you think it will I will grab a few more.

I am also very interested. However, I am concerned with it's ability to restrain the fire extinguisher in a crash. Is there a easy way to add a simple pull pin perhaps? I think you have a very slick idea, at a price point that is very reasonable. But for me, safety is #1. I'd rather not have a missile in the cabin...

I understand your concern, but the whole idea of this design for me was to eliminate the need for the pin or latch which is what separates it from all of the other designs out there. It is very secure if it is mounted in the correct orientation. I am kicking around a few different ideas to have a locking mechanism on it, I just haven't quite come up with an elegant solution that I'm happy with yet, and that doesn't take away from the simplicity of this clamp. Maybe I'll integrate one into the next design when it happens.
