Long time lurker, first time poster.

I've searched (honest!:D) but haven't found anything.

Just picked up my new 2017 LC after trading in an aging Hilux Surf (4 Runner). So far, loving it. Just one thing I've noticed, the rear tailgate/hatch (upper section) doesn't seem to want to close easily. Is that normal? The Surf had an easy-close system. Strange the LC does not. Seems like I have to "slam" the tailgate shut to get it to close properly. Everything looks aligned properly, so I'm guessing it's normal.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

And a one of my daily driver:

Welcome, and nice Cruisers.

Your experience with the hatch sounds normal. My LX has a power hatch but it also operates manually, and won't latch manually unless you push pretty hard on it.

The power close was nice, my wife's 2008 4Runner had it as well, her new 4Runner does not and the slam method is used. Toyota had to cheapen some things to stay competitive in their price point. As far as the cruisers, they have never had a soft close feature, the LX trucks do have a power gate though.

Welcome! I have a 2017 as well. The way you describe closing the hatch sounds normal. I know I have to make sure to apply some force, nothing major, to make sure it latches in. If I softly close it will catch but not be fully "locked" in. Hope that helps.

Have 2016 LC and it's pretty normal to lightly slam the hatch to ensure it's closed.

I have a problem with my lower hatch in that it locks, but too far out...leaving a gap between the rubber seal and the tailgate. This allows dust in at the corners--especially on dirt roads of course. It appears that the bar it engages to lock shut is mounted too far back...but there doesn't appear to be a way to move it.

Thank you all for the replies. You've put my mind at rest! I appreciate the help.

After a long drive yesterday, I've got to say I love this truck!
