Hello All-
Does anyone know if the mid-90's 4Runner front brake caliper upgrade work on a 1989 FJ62? It was a bolt on upgrade for my '86 FJ60. But a friend with an '89 62 asked it if worked on those models & I can seem to find anything on the forum.

thanks,

Yes it will, and IMHO coupled with a booster upgrade, is a worthwhile upgrade. My FJ62, weight about 2700kg full of fuel, with 35" (Nitto MT) will lock the fronts without too much difficulty on dry pavement. Setup is fresh rear shoes, machined drums (adjusted fairly tight), HZJ/FZJ75 front calipers (4x 50mm pistons, similar to the 4Runner calipers) and terrain tamer fortified 75 series front pads, along with an 80 series booster. Understand however that your pedal travel will be much longer than stock. This would be reduced with an 80 series master (Larger internal diameter), with the provisio that you'd need to work through front/rear brake bias, rear residual valve for the drum circuit.

If I was doing it again though, 80 series axles or the FROR setup.
