I would (if it's in the condition described); but I'd let him get the cats. I paid $9500 for my '93 with 128k miles: mint, rust-free, but NO lockers...and completely STOCK.

Looks pretty interesting.....FZJ?

Course I do not know anything about your 40........

Guy sure can write an ad (cushy ride? LOL)

If you don't get it, Woody or someone else will I'm sure

i think its a decent deal. i just talked to him on the phone for half an hour. he has 3 fj40's. sounds like a super nice guy. im not sure if its really a 4 inch lift and dont like the tweeters in the door but then again i dont like, no p/s, no a/c ...etc more opinions are welcome...i have call him back by 11 am tomorrow and let him know so he can end the auction. i think if i do it i will ask him to take care of the cats.

I don't think OME has a 4" lift available.
If they do...and if he got it, I doubt they use Ranchos.

I also don't like the fact that there are no cats. Don't know if you have to deal with emissions in your area, but where I live, this would be a major deal breaker. I also recall there possibly being problems with running a FZJ w/o cats -- don't recall the specifics -- you might want to check the archives.

There are enough decent 80s out there at fair prices that you wouldn't necessarily need to get this one.

I scanned the ad -- no mention of lockers...prolly no lockers.

What's your 40 worth? If it's worth a couple grand, it might be a good deal. if it's worrth close to the same price as this rig...if it were me? I wouldn't do it.

just my 2 cents...

well it does infact have lockers, the ad says it, he said and he even mentioned the "rotary knob". as for the cats, i would require them to be fixed, he said it just runs lean and he has to use premium...so that needs fixing..and yea, i doubts its 4 inch but oh well. still think about it, we'll see.

It so tempting...in northern Va its not very easy to find clean cruiser with lockers, plus the lift and stereo are nice....hmmm wish this wasnt something i had to decide on soo quick. well time to sleep on it..i will check this thread early tomorrow morning...it will really all depend on what the parents say..you know how that is...thanks again

don't you have enough toys already?
and what's with that Chevy among real rigs?
your parents must be saints...

New Jersey? = Rust!

ok, so if its not a 4 inch lift, then what is it? OME 2.5 Heavies?

Ya..it was only in bold print... ;) :D

All in all I would say it isn't a bad deal. The cat thing is interesting...sounds like some old timer. If you do have him take care of the cats...I would specify OEM and tell him you know where to get them (Dan).

Mileage is great for a 93...but can you look at it to see any rust? Undercarriage...and I wonder what is hiding under that roof rack.

Keep us posted.

The rust on that front axle is more than I've seen on any vehicle of any vintage.

Thats one great thing about living in Az.... rust is pretty much non-existent.

Other than that is sure does look nice. Love the color. I would be afraid to find out what else has been tinkered with besides the cats.

WOAH!!! no kidding I didn't even look at that pic of the front axle. DAMN! Would hate to see what the rest of it looks like under there.

no panic, could easily be just a bit of surface rust from exposure. Doesn't mean that there is any real rust on body...

that looks like a deal to me.

Ok heres NJ chiming in .
Rust happens here so anyone who says "wow look at that rust" needs to move to a place it rains and snows :flipoff2: This is also the reason I dont fix oil leaks unless they drip ;p
I would say it was soccer mom DD then gave it to punk son who put in big radio and cut off the cats 'cause his ricer friends told him to . He got bored of it after putting on the lift since it wasnt fast enough and sold it to get himself a souped up Honda that has had the cats cut off too .
Looking at the stickers in the window they dont look like NJ (not a good enough pix)so it maybe a transplant . No cats in NJ= Fail/fine and price of toyota ones = "my butt hurts".

I would go over that truck like "white on rice" As feel some real bad MOJO comming from that thing.

My God:eek:that rust on the front axle.... here if you really want to get it.....http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=4526095791&category=13473

Ok not saying that either have been in NJ or MO all their life...but IMHO, MO isn't going to be that much better the cancer than NJ. Might be actually worse as midwest sees alot of pure ICE storms. The one earlier this year blanketed eastern KS and parts of MO with 4-5 INCHES of ICE. Plows can't remove pure ice...so the dump tons and tons of salt/sand on all the roads.

Growing up in KS I thought all cars started rusting in about 5 years and had major rusted through areas by 10 years. Moved to Texas and couldn't believe that there are trucks here 20-30 years old with only minor rust issues. So if you are concerned about rust...major or minor issues check them both out throughly.

That is why the carfax when I bought mine was important...it has never been registered outside Texas.
