Question - Rear Vents (behind the back windows) stuck open & exhaust fumes?

Semi-hypothetical question - Let's say a 1999 LC has an issue where those little vents behind the rear windows and they constantly stuck open. Not the back windows, those little venty things behind the windows. In your opinion, could that cause a backdraft of exhaust fumes to come into the cabin?

When mine are open I get exhaust fumes...

I'll have to go look lol. There's a button somewhere but I don't use them much so I don't remember exactly where it is. Standby

Buttons are on the dash panel to the left of the steering wheel, below the AC vent. Labeled R and L Rear Vent or something like that

Thanks for the responses.

@Nors - As I understand it, you can't control them automatically. Once again, I'm not talking about the back window vents, I'm talking about the small vents behind the back window. Here in Texas, when it's hot outside and you're pre-cooling your car, those things are blasting out the hot air from inside the cabin.

@Trunk Monkey - I'm worried about it because I've been feeling bad, lightheaded and hurl-y, when I've been driving from more than 20 minutes or so. It's happened a handful of times over the past month and I'm a little worried. The dealership has run thru everything and it all check out (no exhaust manifold leaks) but this is the only thing left and I think they might be on to something.

Oh, I just noticed those and wondered if they opened with the rear window controls or were somehow tied into the climate control system.

Depending on how I'm driving, I can't use the rear vents. In traffic? Forget it. Driving downwind slower than the wind is blowing? Not happening. In some cases a crosswind will "fume up" the car. I just leave them closed. I'm not sure how to close the little vents behind the glass

Those vents exhaust air from inside the vehicle; that's why you feel the air coming out when the HVAC fan is on a higher speed. They also provide a large vent area to reduce cabin pressure if the airbags go off. If the HVAC fan is running at all, it is unlikely you are getting engine exhaust in those. I like TM's suggestion to put a detector in the rear and find out if you have an exhaust system leak somewhere. Do you use recirculate or fresh air settings on the HVAC system? Is the recirculate/fresh air damper on the HVAC system working ok?

I think the rear ventilator assembly has a flap (draft blocker) that ensures one-way flow of air.
The flap is only open when the air pressure inside the vehicle is greater than pressure outside.
It's like a check valve built into the vent assembly that should prevent exhaust from entering through the vent.
