Hello. I apologize for my ignorance, but I am curious about snorkels. Are they for intake or exhaust for my car? If I drive my car in the river at a level where the muffler is submerged but the intake for the airfilter is not, does this present a problem (assuming the snorkel is for intake). Thanks for your expertise.

here is my experience,
the intake snorkel is only as good as the seal. if not installed properly you are better off with out a snorkel because seeing it there will give you a false sense of security.
you also have to take into consideration the vent lines for your diffs and the shift tower for the standard trannies.
finally, if you run to large an exhaust then there is little pressure to keep the water out so if you are idling across the puddle/lake/river the force of the water can over power your engine's exhaust pressure thus shutting down the engien at which time the water travels back up the exhaust, through your open exhaust valves .
if you have a venting gas cap then the water pressure can go in through the vent and flood your tank and if you have ANY cracks in the induction system flood the intake system with water.
snorkels are cool but make sure you take into consideration all the areas needing attention.
how do i know?
ooops.
cheers

My better advince .. Land Cruiser are no boats or submarines, off course, you ust be prepared, with a snorkel and vent lines for your axles and tranny/t-case are better.

But you need to know, your bearings ( alternator, starter, u-joints, bierfields ) are not sealed, nor even using marine greasee you are safe.
