For those of you with the Lexus Credit card, were you able to get the emergency key insert to open your door? Was the blank you used single sided?

My LC key is double sided (I assume the standard Lx570 key is also double sided?), but I assume a single side blank should work to unlock the door. Just want to make sure before I order the key and have it cut.

As the images show, the credit card key is flat on one side and thinner than the standard key (it is grooved on the other) while the standard key has the groove on both sides (can be cut on both sides).

TIA.

Not sure how much help this is.. for my 18 LX, the credit card key is only cut on one side., as is the key in the remote. The cutout is identical on both. And I just checked the credit card key and it opens the door lock.

^^^ the keys are the same as that on my ‘13 LX. Both types cut on one side and open the door.

Thanks. I guess I likely won't be able to get this key to work on my '11 LC, as the original key is cut on both sides.

Does your LX have the push button ignition?

Is your ignition push button? I am wondering if the dual cut is required for the ignition, but maybe not the door.

Are you checking just to make sure that have a spare in case of a dead battery? In the 18 months Ive had my LX, I've used the credit card all but maybe 5 times, and Ive NEVER used the actual key. Maybe consider stashing the key from your remote under the car somewhere, in case of a dead battery?

Or is it that your LX does not unlock when you grasp the door handle with your hand, like the LX does?

Yes my ignition is push button.

The Land Cruiser has push button and unlocks when you grab the handle. Just wanted a physical key for a backup, and when I go whitewater kayaking I like to pull the battery and leave the FOB in the car and take the physical key with me. Pulling the battery from the CC style is really quick and easy. Not a big deal, I can use one of my originals if necessary, but was trying to streamline.

I'd pull the key from your remote and stash it under the LC. The credit card key is awesome. In the rare instances when you need the physical key, if the one-sided key doesn't work, then pull your stashed spare. After 18 months of using the credit card, I absolutely love it. I think you'd find it worth it.

Yeah, I have an unlocked credit card style key being delivered Thursday. I'll have to decide what to do about the emergency key. I wonder if I can get a flat version for my wallet.

This sounds silly, but where do you keep it? My wallet is thick enough already. Maybe just keychain it?

The credit card fob is as thick as 2 credit cards. I have all my membership cards scanned to my phone, so all my wallet has is cash, credit cards, ID work access card and now LC FOB. Pretty thin really.

Single sided must be a Lexus thing. My 13LC physical key is cut on both sides.

I’m curious whether a single sided key would still operate the tumbler though.. I think it would, as the key is cut so that either way it is inserted the tumbler on one side will see the same pattern. Maybe it’ll only go in one way but will operate the lock if it’s inserted correctly? Will a toyota dealer even cut a single sided key for a cruiser?

Is there a credit card key for LC? I don't care for the physical key. The credit card key looks big in above photos.

I have consolidated over the years. Over the past couple of years I have started using a phone case and wallet combo.

The phone holder inside back is magnetic, which lets the phone stick to either the wallet or the magnetic phone holders in my cars. The case is basically the size of my phone. I’ve found that all I really need is my ID and 2-3 credit/debit cards. A few other items (Costco card, etc.) in the center console and I’m set. Also, before I moved I had taped the key ring version of the local grocery store’s discount card to my credit card key.

This makes it much easier to get out the door - phone and wallet are already together and really the wallet just isn’t that much bigger than the phone.

As for the key, I keep it in my pocket with some cash that is folded in half.

In the picture is one I just got today to replace a very well used one.

Well, I picked up a single sided key and will have it cut today. Will be an expensive experiment if it doesn't work. Will update later.

How expensive? And referring to just the single sided key or the whole credit card key?

For those of your reading this with the a MY17 (I'd assume 16 and up), the key is also flat on one side. I'd wager that the regular uncut LX key would also suffice when cut correctly for these trucks.

Single sided key and the FOB. I'll have the FOB tomorrow. Key was $38 and cutting it was $40 (should have price compared, but whatever). It didn't work on my lock, but it also appears the locksmith did a bad job. Will post pic comparisons shortly.
