My wife is the best. She has 2 flaws: she is too easily scared and she can't drive a standard tranny, AT ALL.

I am buying a 1989 4Runner, SR5, V6, 4x4 w/ 5-speed manual. I DO NOT care about losing power/performance.

I need to know how hard it would be to swap in an auto for the 5-speed. Is it a direct swap? If not, what all is involved? Which auto tranny would I need to source for this truck? Anyone know the best place to get it?

Thanks

I have the same prob with my wife so I'm going a bit overboard on my mini so as to keep a bit of my own sanity. I've decided to swap to a 4.3 with auto adapted to Toy t-case. That way I am using the whole GM setup from the donor vehicle from the computer down to the misc. hardware. It will be a bit of work but she's worth it. Besides, it's my own fault for taking her to Moab. Hehehe 8)

It would be alot easier to just find an auto equiped truck!

With 90K miles and from someone you know/trust?

Doesn't matter, I had to pass on it. The money is scheduled for FZJ-80 maint. :(
