Question about shackle length (extended) (1 Viewer)

2manycruisers - if I ever make sense of all of this and order anything, I'll let you know how things turn out. Clearly, this will have to be discussed on the phone to verify and maintain an even stance.

one more data point. this from cool cruisers' site.

they offer a set of staggered shackles for the 62, but an equal length set of the 60. maybe they know something i don't and the 62 needs that .5" shackle difference (.25" lift) in the rear. obviously, we're not talking about enough here to make much of a difference, but I thought it was interesting that the 62 took staggered shackles (according to coolcruisers). who knows, maybe i am .25" lower in the back. :D

for the 62:
-Shackles- "HFS"- 4ea- 1.5" & 2" - 18mm Bolts- FJ62 - 8/87-1/90padFJ62 - 8/87-1/90
-Complete set of 4 Shackles
-Front Shackles are 1.5" taller than stock
-Rear Shackles are 2.0" taller than stock

for the 60:
-Shackles- "HFS"- 4ea 2-1/2"- 18mm Reg Bolts - '8/80 to 7/87pad
-Fits FJ60 '8/80 to 1987
-Fits FJ40 '8/80 to 1984

That's what my stock shackles measure on my 8/84 FJ60!:confused:
I like the MAF 4+PLus greasable shackles but can't decide which lengths to go for either.
I sent them an email earlier this afternoon but no response yet.
 
Funny you mention MAF because I was just looking at their shackles and they're the only ones I can think of that actually reference a length of 5 3/8", which would be a 2" extended for the back and they label it as a 'rear'. Problem is, they say they 'pair' that with a +3" shackle for the front. That would give 6" in the front. The front should be 5" (2" over). It's amazing how much information is contradictory on this part.

NorCal, please let me know what you here from them, if anything. Now, it's just a curiosity.

I was looking at the MAF 4+ too. I just installed the OME Dakars and want to even out my ride. I am about 2 inches higher in the rear. I am thinking of the 3" shackles in the front which should give me about 1.5" lift.
Not sure if they will look hokie or not because of the size
 
Will do, FJsixty2! I'll just harass them with a call if no email by noon tomorrow.;p Pretty amazing how these outfits that deal in Land Cruiser parts can leave one so :confused: about their products, granted they do have alot of info to manage though.

Hey nymbert, 2 inches higher in the rear?:eek: Did you get the full lift kit, just springs or some combination thereof? They probably just need to settle in some. I think you should give a call to whoever you had purchased from/had insalled by, it'll make it easier to straighten out the problem if they're given a heads-up about your situation.

Just the springs from MAF no other mods.I should have ordered new shackles but took the cheap route and used the stock ones.
I installed the springs myself, and do believe they will settle down a bit. I have only had them on less than a week
 
I kinda was confused to. I want +1 inch front and back in anti-inversion shackles, but couldn't what I was looking for.
 
I went with a place called southwest4x4 www.southwest4x4.com is there link. From the middle of each eye i got 6 1/2 inches for the front and 7 1/4 for the rear ones. Im not sure if they gave me exactly 2 inches of lift but it looks about that much higher. It sits level on mine but I also have an OME 2.5 inch dakar springs on it, but it should be the same for a stock rig.

I'm not sure why, but all of the 1-1.5" extended shackles I can find are barbell type shackles and not anti-inversion. The anti-inversions seem to be either stock length or 2"+. SOR has a 1" extended barbell and Cool Cruisers have a ton of options, but I didn't see any 1" anti-inversions. Did you check MAF abd JTO? You do want 1" extended and not 1" lift, right? There seem to be plenty of 2-2.5" extended anti-inversions.

I ordered a pair of these and I'll probably never do business with JTO again. First, 4 or 5 days after I ordered them, I emailed for a tracking # and they hadn't even processed my order. Another week later they show up. The next day they show up again. They processed my order twice and charged for both. Their packing sucked, both packages were busted, one was missing nuts. And if all that weren't enough, the shackles come drilled to 18mm but include 5/8" bolts. WTF? If shipping weren't so expensive I would have sent them back, but I returned the duplicate order (which they credited with no problem) and will have to find 18mm bolts to make them fit. I called them about it and they offered me no satisfaction about the 5/8 bolts.
YMMV, but I was disgusted with my first and last transaction with JTO.

What a PITA!

I've had that kinda experiance here with a local MC shop.:mad:

That sounds par-for-course from what I've read by others here. I've never dealt with JTO personally, but with all the problems other LC owners have had with them, I doubt I ever will.

Nothing wrong with having the rear sit just a bit higher than the front. Remember, if you carry any cargo, the weight will make your rear settle so it sits even with the front. Lots of pickups have their ass end way up there so they'll sit level with a heavy payload.
