q78 swamper on stock rims? (1 Viewer)

A neighbor just dropped off 5 1971 fj40 wheels, one with the original spare. They are all in great shape and I was wondering if a q78-15 tsl would squeeze on okay for my son's "troopy" project.

The wheels have been barn/garage stored for 25 years.

The truck will have '89 fj62 axles and probably a SOA. Rubbing won't be an issue.

Should work fine that's a 35.5 9.5 on a 5.5 rim.

You have drum wheels and they will work ONLY with 1/4" spacers on a 62 axle or any axle '75+ years.I run spacers and they work fine

Thanks guys. I love those photos Eshu! I guess we keep the wheels. The spring clips for the hub caps are completely intact too.

the red one that Eshu posted is of a friend of mine bigredfj40 here on mud....that is a great tire for the oem rims...and thats a very capable rig

there are no fitting issues with mounting them on oem rims

Thanks for the info. My son is totally excited about working on his 40 and just putting it into the garage out of the snow has inspired him to help clean the garage! He has no idea how much work is ahead of him before he can use this tire/rim combo.

He already wants to bolt on a set of my hinges. At 12 yrs old, he can pull the hard doors on my 40.

That green 40 is a fine looking cruiser, I have since switched to 35" Krawlers. IIRC my Q78's rubbed my TRE a bit. You probably would want to add spacers and you will most likely need to with the drum brake wheels.
