OK I just put the parts together and I would say 99.9% that the PZ and H55 combo will work. Ill post a few pics later

The back of the crank on the HZ and PZ is the same except that the PZ uses a locating dowel in addition to the flywheel bolts. It can be pulled out.

You would have to use the trans from a 1HZ setup (HZJ 7x H55).

Use the 1HZ pilot bearing, flywheel, and clutch parts. You may have to switch the sandwich plate on the back of the engine for starter alignment but I dont think so.

next question, when you neasure back from the block to the shifter on each setup do the shifters come through roughly the same place?
does the crossmember of the H55F and the R151 locate in the same locations?
distance from the block to the output flange on the t/case?

H55 shifter is about 15.5" from the block.
151 Shifter is about 21.

Trans member (centerline of the mount on the trans)
H55 is about 10"
151 is 20.5"

Trans to rear output
H55 is 31.5 or so
151 is 34.

okay so if you moved the PZ back into the engine bay then the shifter would be about 4" closer to stock ...
new driveshafts needed3" is nothing, nice.
it will be interesting to see if the frame has the proper welded nuts for the H55F crossmember... that would be cool...
looks good and doable...

thanks for posting up the pics

Crushers, Roscoe, anyone,

What are the curb(kerb) weight and GVW for PZJ77? I'm nearing the time to get into the nittygritty of purchasing my first 70 series. Will probably have it sometime before the end of January. Need to start making a mod list for my Amazon to the Andes trip :) and I need to know what I can take out (rear seats are going, front seats to be replaced). I want to put in an internal rolecage to 'possibly' mount a roofrack but after reading the VDEG I want to be absolutely sure of where and how much weight is being placed on the truck.

Also, any thoughts on using parabolic leafs or standard leaf packs for extreme terrain expedition travel? I've heard that standard leaves are easier to replace if broken and if one breaks its no the end of the world, but parabolics give a smoother ride but if one breaks its toast. Any comments on longevity issues?

Thanks,
Chris

my only experience with parabolics left me with a less than impressed impression... actually, my feeling was "what a was of money". the ride was smooth but cornering at slow speeds gave a "holy sh#t, we're going over".
a properly setup set of Dakar springs will give you a very comfortable ride, longevity and support.

but

i do not think they make a set for the 77 series.

Do you guys know if the leaf springs from or for a 75 would be compatible (length, flex etc) for a 76/77? I looked up the part numbers on the toyodiy site and found the front leaves are compatible for a 73 and 77, the rear leaves for a 77 are 6 leaves vs a 75 which has a similar PN but has 10 leaves, I'm assuming for carrying increased load but otherwise to me seems very similar. They also make OME Dakar springs for a 75 which is what I'm looking to for upgrading/replacing the OEM leaves on the 77. Any other thoughts/source for suspension upgrades for the 77 if the OMEs don't work?

Cheers,
Chris

i beleive the 77 has an oddball rear leaf length, not compatable with any other models..

could be wrong though

Know of any aftermarket support for the 4-door wagons, suspension-wise that isn't OME? I would find it hard to believe that someone in Oz hasn't modded a 76/77.

Cheers

RM183E

Need the Document RM183E as need to repair the braking system of my Landcruzer PZJ77 Series.

Thanks

Dobinsons,Ironman,King Springs and 4-5 I cant remember,all have kits for the VDJ76.
AFAIK,only Dobinsons make their own products these days, although they buy their shocks from someone in Europe.
Im not sure if the spring length is different between the earlier and current model 76/77

Correct our vdj76's are coil front, i wonder if they got a longer rear leaf like the 78's and 79's got after upgrading from 75

current model 77/76 are coil front...no?
Coil yes
I wasnt sure what xtfritz had but you can still get kits for all the models from Dobs

Jumping in this thread as I've been looking at a PZJ75.

Crushers, earlier you said the 2 piece fly wheel was expensive and not reliable and the sole reason not to get a PZ but you also said you really liked that little 5 cyl. So would you still consider the 1PZ engine? I'd use this truck as DD, offroading/camping and road trips. A HZJ75 would be nice but they are hard to find within my budget.

Here's a picture of the PZJ75 which comes with lockers and winch... It's a nice truck but if it's going to be too much of a headache to service/maintain I might go back to my original idea which is the HZJ77.

Thanks!

ummm, i cannot recall ever saying the 2 piece was not reliable but i do concur that the little bugger is expensive. i have never had an issue with the 2 piece unit but others have. the 2LT and 2LTE have the same configurations.
where do you get the idea that a HZ is easier to maintain than the PZ?
