Here's a picture of the PZJ75 which comes with lockers and winch... It's a nice truck but if it's going to be too much of a headache to service/maintain I might go back to my original idea which is the HZJ77.

Thanks!

I dont think the PZJ75 will be more costly in the long run to maintain. I would prefer a 1HZ just for the power but the troopy would be more useful if travelling is what you want it for

Wayne, I got that in the 1st page;
"the 2 piece fly wheel is reported to cost high and isn't reliable." Maybe I misunderstood?

Here's my rig now (1st in line), love the room but some limitation for off-roading, a bit under-powered and once out of Vancouver area might get tricky for parts. The trooper would hopefully address all those points except maybe the power?

ah, "it is reported not to be...", my wording is confusing. "reported" as in rumored but not by me. i have no issue at all with them but i have <heard> of owners having issues.
it was a word of caution from hearsay. i have had minetruck PZ that have been beat with no issues and it was ENS that i had the conversation with over this issue. Brian had mentioned in passing that the 2-peice had issues when beat in the mines.
my bad.

I'd not hesitate ever gettong a truck with a 1PZ in it, I doubt most people would motice a power difference, and put a turbo on it and it would be a great engine. The good thing about it is that since most people don't want them they are pretty cheap to buy:)

PZJ77 Suspension

After considerable chat on another thread here and help from Roscoe, Chris Dobinson (OZ) and Jim Jackson (ARBUSA), I have been successful in finding/sourcing/installing 73/74/75 series front leafs (HD Dakar OME) and 76 series rear leafs (same) in my '91 PZJ-T77 and I love the ride. Tell Jim Jackson that you heard it from me (Jan) then he can simply give you a copy of the order or you order from a distributor. Easy 3" lift and I am running 33x10.5x15 BFG ATs.

Hope this helps, sorry it is a bit late but I just completed this in March, 2010.

Jan I love your truck,
I hope to have a 77 within the next year here.
Know anyone who wants a wicked 81?

lots of people WANT a diesel 80 series but they don't want to pay what they are worth...

i have another sweet HZJ77 sitting in the shop right now for a customer in TO. i took 2 years to find him the right one but it is WICKED. HZ, H55F, elec lockers front and rear, ladder, roof rack, mint inside and out.

when i brought in Jan's PZJ77 for the previous owner, it was one of the nicest 77s in Canada. i have not seen it in a couple years but i know the last owner was meticulious.

to me, the 77 is the best Land Cruiser you can import.

Besides quite a few scratches on the interior due to previous owners storing bikes in the back, she is in great shape with just a few more miles on it since I have done a few longer trips to the USA SW. She has 116,000 kms on her now and has phenomenal fuel economy and range. On flat out highways (like the basin runs in Nevada) at 80-85 kph (you know my style of driving Wayne) she gets 7.5-8.5 L/100kms. She is a real gem and with the new OME HD Dakar suspension (mixed 75/76 leafs), the ride is great. She sits quite a bit higher now, so her knickers show a bit.

Wayne, I started a thread on the boost vs EGTs thing and could use your and other input.

81s seem to have a wide range of prices. Guys sell theirs with 180,000 for 19 grand still with minor mods. I don't plan on putting mine really over that. 19.5 is what I am thinking. People buy them. I have a bit of a tough market now because there are a few up. The person who buys my truck is going to be looking for something specific. I don't know how quick it will sell.
Shes getting a good thuro clean and an oil change when she gets home. Its a nice highway truck.

i can't wait for a 77 though. I have plans for that truck:)
OME Heavy system, Safari snorkel with pre cleaner, arb bumper with a 8274 and a bunch of other ideas and future plans.....

Thanks, If my son hadn't bought an 81 series LTD just recently for a wicked low price, he might be interested, but he has a harem of JDMs all diesels, 3 Hiluxes (one to part out, one to sell and one to keep) as well as a turbo'd Surf to sell in really good condition with all windows factory tinted, all options, low kms, new OEM sun roof install and the 81 to keep as he found a Front Runner aux fuel tank, ARB sliders, etc.

He is currently looking for an ARB front bumper, if you know of a deal.

Turbo diesel 80 s are good and nice to drive ... But there just ain't no better homely feeling than jumpin into the cab of a 7x series grabing the wheel looking over the cool 7x dash and cool bonnet and driving

Not sure where you got the "V" from. I put a "T" behind mine as it is Turbo'd. I believe the "V" has to do with the Trim package but not sure. Wayne can help on this as he is the resident guru on these rare TLCs. Sorry i can't help more.

I think the V means 4DR wagon which is kind of pointless because being a 77 series we already know its a wagon. This was all in the old TLC FAQ site which is gone. Some fo the cached pages are there but I couldnt find the one for decoding the model and production codes.
It would be good if we could retrieve the info from that site as it had some really useful stuff that doesnt seem to be available anywhere else.

rosco,
no argument there
just like J stands for Jeep
B for bus

Is there a decoder anywhere now? There is one on wiki but its not landcruiser specific and the alpha codes are a bit different for cars etc.

I found MY PZJ77 in a bond in Kampala, imported from Japan. Bought it for my wife but cant walk past it in the morning. I am in love. The car is so 'fresh', hardly showing any use and mileage seemed genuine at 111k KM only in 23 years...The 5cyl purrs like a fat cat, what a smooth diesel engine. There is nothing on the car that doesn't function as intended. Left the car pretty much as is, just a change to 235/85R16 rubber makes it look 'old school'. Only gripe is the front suspension. It bottoms out when going over any bumps. Do I need to find fresh HD springs to fit? Shocks are new.
