Hi all,

Im looking to install an Isspro Pyrometer probe on a 1991 HDJ81 Turbo Diesel and im looking to see what others have done. I want to place it in the manifold pre turbo. I thought of ripping the manifold right out and doing the job away from the turbo but I thought with tearing it out there is a good chance of rust and old grease chunkies falling into the turbo from the semi rusted manifold and other grit and junk that might dislodge while removing and reinstalling the manifold. Whats the opinion on tapping it in place and any suggestions on how to do this as clean as possible without dropping shavings?? Also,...this is not a clamp on pyro probe but a tap variety,...i can easily make it a clamp variety but im wondering what the general feeling is with clamp on vs tap and die,...once again,...worried about shavings with tap and die.

Thanks for the suggestions in advance!!

Did you ever get the pyro installed? I have my turbo out for reconditioning and purchased a pyro. Bit of a Biatch getting the manifold off. Where did you install yours. Pre turbo I imagine. Do you have any pics?

thanks

Yeah I put the pyro in pre turbo at a place called ProActive Automotive in Calgary,...cost about $200 but I would never have touched it myself. Its installed at the base of the heat shield with a small u shaped cutout in the shield to make room for the pyro and its centered on the down pipe going to the turbo. The gauge I bought was faulty ISSPRO so I returned it and just installed it today. Im not really too sure what to think of it because it only goes up to 800 deg celcius and I hit that without too much trouble going up a hill,...I think it would be better to have it go to about 1200. Any thoughts on that??
