Is it supposed to be the case for the pwr button and the 2nd start button to not be able to be on (or pushed in) at the same time? or is it a sign that there's a problem?

thanks... its just my prize took some beating this weekend and I thought they could both be pushed in at same time before

x3. Just replaced mine. Be careful taking it apart if you do. i think mine was actually fine until I had to look inside.

the pwr button has some use, the 2nd button is retarded. if you break it, break the 2nd button and keep the pwr button. :)

I actually use the 2nd gear start button in Low Range more than I use the Power button :meh:

never tought in that before . but that makes big time sense ..

I always leave the PW button on. Shifting just feels weird without it. I've used the 2nd button a few times in LOW in the sand or crawling icy roads.

I too like the pwr button, but I have never used the 2nd button and doubt I ever will. We don't have ice here. :)

I was hoping the 2nd start button would help out this past weekend on an old mining road with a ton of snow... didn't so much.. how do you use it correctly???

as i understand it, it is supposed to help prevent wheel spin on takeoff with icy/slippery conditions. kind of like a poor man's traction control. i played with mine a little last winter, but found it easier to just be easy on the throttle to control the wheel spin. my $.02 anyway.

just my .02 but I think the power button is a joke on a 5500lb vehicle. I mean seriously - it's not an 8 second car or anything! The 2nd gear button - makes alot of sense if you are using these vehicles in areas they were designed to go.

When I was a kid riding along with my dad in East Africa - we got ourselves in several places where starting out in second gear was a must. Of course it was much easier, considering those were manual vs. automatics. But trust me - in deep sand it does help out.

Not quite.

Second start is just that. From a dead stop, you start in second gear instead of first. It does two things. One, you start off with a lower gear ratio which means you can be higher RPM's with less tire movement/spin. Secondly, starting off in second gear means that you avoid the shift from first to second, which is usually the most harsh.

I never use the "power" button, use the "2nd start" very often on the trail. The "power" button is simply a transmission shift map, it holds each gear longer, so revs the motor higher in each gear, wasting fuel, etc. The same shift map is used in normal mode when full throttle is applied, so is automatic when needed. I run 2nd start on the trail, except when low first is needed.

When I first got my 80 I spent some time trying to figure out if there was a fuel economy hit. I could never get a controlled enough environment to get conclusive results. I'd love to see if someone has done a real test on this.

I've since added a beefed up valve body that makes the shifts much more crisp and I do a decent amount of boat towing, plus I have a BIG hill on my daily commute, so overall it just stays on. I'm sure the sweet spot in my turbo has something to do with that as well..... Just though of that....

Didn't want to start a new thread for this but it's a concern....

when in 4low, I noticed the tranny slips between what I presume is 1st and 2nd. is that normal?? or something to be concerned about??

funny, I do the same. In low range starting in second prevent the big jolt that comes with the first to second shift.

Don't break either button, it is lovely when everything just work right. Sometimes it takes a while to find a use for a feature, but eventually you find a use for it.
