Purchasing Question: Am I out of my mind?

Recognizing that Land Cruiser prices are absurd these days, I find myself entertaining the purchase of a 1-owner, 2006 no rust example with 93K miles on the clock for $28K.

Service history is limited and the TB, water pump, radiator has never been changed from what I can tell. Is this a reasonable price for a low mileage example or is my money better put elsewhere?

That's the one. It's the wife's daily driver.....cut me some slack with the chrome handles!!!!
Sorry, I was not trying to knock on your ride. I just wish they would have left it body color. It is a great find. I would happily roll that with the chromies.

Low mileage in these trucks is over rated. Unless you plan on keeping it a low-mile showcar/investment, but where's the fun in that.
Buy one based on condition and price, not mileage. Honestly, I rather have a 300k mile one that has been basically restored, than a 94K mile unknown.
No kidding. I've had my 200k mile LX for sale with $10k poured into baselining and the emails have been frustrating. People over value mileage on these trucks. You either believe they last 500k miles or you don't.

I agree... out of curiosity how much are you selling for?

In all fairness he is talking about a 2006 and yours is a 2005. 06-07 sell for a premium, and for good reason. He also referred to it as a land cruiser, and yours is an LX. Land Cruisers are well known to go for a premium over a similar LX, I will denote for not a good reason IMO. Either way, GLWS. That's a good looking LX.

thanks all for the help -- I ended up passing for now. Someone will pay asking price but for what i'd like to do to baseline properly its too much I think.

Not commenting on the value of the truck in the market, but more on where I'd like to invest my cash. Everything is original on that truck and something is likely to go soon!

No doubt, not arguing any of those points! Thanks!

That was how I looked at mine as well. I used it for work trips and once I started reading about things that "could" fail I ended up just changing out everything. Peace of mind to drive it anywhere even without cell reception is a nice feeling.

I didn’t say anything about mileage or ownership. Plenty of good early 200 series (08-12) with <200k miles for less than or close to OP’s price for this mystical 100. I’d be very wary of any 100 series with <150k miles on the clock, and also prepared to dump as much money into replacing hoses, plastic, etc as I would with a 100 that has 300k miles. Age matters and many parts on the 100 likely will need replaced regardless of mileage.
Agreed to be wary. Under 100k rigs are like unicorns these days. You really need to inspect the providence of the truck to make sure it’s not been spun back/altered. I’m always suspicious- especially at that price- 90k 06 models were selling for close to $40k before Covid

I never think anyone is out of their mind for buying a land cruiser...

I think the current market for a well-maintained/ good condition 06/07 (no rust) is $30k (+/-) right now. And that is based on about 6 months of shopping for 100 series. Prior years can be had for less.

Whether that is worth it is up to the buyer.

Completely agree.
