There is an abundant supply of FSMs for 2011 LX570s on eBay that I am assuming are counterfeit. Can anyone in the know tell me if there are significant changes between 11' and 14'? From what I can tell, the answer is no and a 2011 FSM should suffice.

Don't know if they're counterfeit. I bought paper FSM's from eBay and they sure look like the real deal to me. I have a '18 and bought ones from an '11 I think? Everything is the same mechanically, wiring and interior is obviously different since I've got the face lifted interior...

No idea what you're finding on eBay but I bought my FSM's through there and they're definitely legit.

The mechanical stuff will be mostly correct, but there are substantial wiring and electronic changes. Xenon headlamps and a different MFI in the dash come to mind. Even these small changes often suggest bigger changes to the wiring, fuse blocks, etc.

I appreciate the desire for a paper FSM, but the electronic versions available in this section are comprehensive for both LC and LX and most years, and can travel much more easily.

As a tech philistine, the electronic versions that are available here just sorta blow for me. I've got them on my laptop, but everything needed to make them work makes my head spin and frequently they don't work for me. This is the same thing that keeps me from getting a hacked techstream going.

Since the mechanical bits are all the same, I have the paper manuals. I'd be much happier with paper manuals for my specific '18 but they're no longer made and nobody sells a download of the FSM for an '18, which I'd also happily buy...

When was the last time you tried the digital version? If you have the ISO downloaded, all you really have to do is set up a local webserver on your computer to display it. The step-by-step webserver setup instructions are below (for Windows).

If you need the ISO: FSM for 200 series - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/fsm-for-200-series.765372/page-6#post-14229850

To just set up the webserver: tis-clone/ABYSS.md at main · rootflags/tis-clone - https://github.com/rootflags/tis-clone/blob/main/ABYSS.md

As of 2-3 years ago it's much easier than it used to be - you no longer need to boot the ISO or use VMware Workstation or Fusion or another virtual machine.

The ISO also has a PDF option if you really want to print it. I mean the repair manual alone is like 7000 pages, but it's printable. The only thing you lose is the ability to jump back and forth between steps as the sections are linked together in the website but on paper they're not tied to a page number.

I've followed your instructions. Had the IT guy that does our computer work at my practice hook it all up for me. Still a total PITA to use, doesn't just boot up when I double click it.

Yeah, I'm not gonna print out a 7,000 page manual....

My copy runs 8549 pages, IIRC.

Fully half of that content is of the "Please don't run with scissors." variety - useless, IMHO.

Care to join me in 'Mud Luddites Club?

Definitely. Can we have club meetings at brew pubs please?

But did you check the Driver's floor mat yet?

I've got the weathertech mats.

The ISO can be configured to re-mount itself at bootup... I can give a dos .bat file for that if you need one. The Abyss webserver can be configured to start at bootup too (see step 7 in the instructions, it's one click). At that point you just open the web browser and go to http://127.0.0.1:9999/ and save a bookmark. Not sure how to make that any easier, but maybe someone who is good with Windows installers could do it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That'd be great. Next time my IT guy shows up I can ask him to set it all up for me

Another non-tech here who was able to manage using them on a windows based machine, but only barely… I was not able to make the FSM work on Apple devices which to me would have been better to work with while out in the garage. Are the iOS based devices and the FSM compatible?

Yes it will work on a Mac. Someone later in the thread past my post I think has the setup instructions for a Mac. Unfortunately I don't have one or I'd write them up. If someone has an old Mac they want to send me I'm happy to help ;)
