Man this is driving me nuts. The lights pulsate like crazy. The voltage is fine and all I have a red top optima and it has good voltage also, is there something I'm missing. Do I need to go to the dual battery and the mean green? Any help would be great planning a 10 day trip in death valley in august and would really like to have this issue solved before I go. Thanks TT

Bad voltage regulator?

Which lights are pulsating?

If it's the dash lights it is a common symptom of an alternator problem, usually dirty brushes.

If it's headlights it could be an earth problem or a dirty connector.

Get a multimeter and check voltages where your problem is.

i think you have hit the nail on the head, could have said it better.

I think the response TT is looking for is this:

You really need a dual battery setup and a high-amperage alternater to fix your problem.

Now where is my beer :)

tokyo;

Check the ground lug on the left (drivers side) near the battery. It connects to the Neg battery lug and will corrode over time. Check the strap ground from the firewall to the engine.
