I'm waiting for my parts to arrive from Dan but hoping to tackle it this weekend. My valve cover gasket is starting to give so I figured it would also be a good time to clean my t-body and replace the PCV/grommet. I've got the service manual so I think I can handle this (never done it before). anything else I should consider taking on while doing this? I can probably check valve clearances but wouldn't know what to do about discrepancies though...

If I have time, I'll install the block heater, T-stat, and flush/refill collant also. I'll try to remember to take pics.

TIA

Read the FSM about valve clearance, if you are going to pull the cover might as well check it

THe PHH is also easier when the valve cover is removed.

I don't understand how its easier to get to the PHH with the valve cover off
I had my valve cover and intake chamber off and the PHH was still blocked by the intake manifold.
Removing the intake manifold would make the PHH a piece of cake.
How hard is it to remove the intake manifold? Just bolts and gasket???

It's not difficult to remove the intake chambers. IMO it's not necessary to replace the metal gaskets between them, but it's your money.

I'm with Landtoy80 in trying to understand how removing the VC makes getting at the PHH easier?? It still looks like it would be about six inches away from the ends of my fingers no matter what.

I think that removing the valve cover makes it easier to get to the rear bolt of that tube which makes the job easier if you intend on removing that tube. I don't remove the tube so removing the valve cover doesn't help.
