Pulling a 3 speed tranny and t-case

I am about to pull my 3spd tranny and tcase from under my cruiser. I am not planning on pulling the engine. Does it basically pull right out after you undo the 4 tranny to bellhousing bolts? What else do i need to look out for? I know i need to unhook the driveshafts, speedo cable, vaccuum shift linkage, and parking brake cable.

Once you disconnect all the items you mentioned and remove the bolts holding the transmission to the bellhousing, you should be able to slide the transmission input shaft out of the bellhousing. You will most likely need a transmission jack or something to support the weight of the transmission and tcase. IMO, it is easier to pull the engine/tranny/tcase as a unit, then disassemble. By the way, why are you pulling these anyway?

I recently acquired an addittional 3spd tranny and tcase still together with the top shift tcase linkage. I am removing the vaccum shift linkage and going to the floor shift. I now have 2 extra 3 spds and one extra tcase. I am doing all this while installing the Vintage A/C unit.

My preffered way would be to unbolt the tranny hump and use an engine lift through the door.

OR, do what I did. Lay across the drivers seat, resting the right ribcage on the corner of the seat, place forehead on passenger floor for balance and slide the pig out and set it down onto the ground.

Of course, doing this, I crushed my right ribs up into my chest and had to go to te hospital and have x-rays! ha ha

I'm building a custom wooden cradle that will bolt to my floor jack and hold the weight from below, where I can lift and lower it easily.

Lesson learned.

you can also open both windows and slide a 4x4 across and use a come-a-long, works pretty decent.

I removed the tunnel and then used straps thru the roll cage.

Can't you do this with the old units in place. I am probably wrong, but I thought on 3spds you could interchange the top plate of a column shifter with the top plate of a floor shifter. I think you can also just swap the shift levers and such on the transfer, using your old transfer and tranny with new shift stuff attached. Its a lot easier, but I guess the 3spd/xfer assembly is not too heavy. Pretty tiny tranny there. I just removed mine 2 weeks ago, and I'm throwing it somewhere else. Piece o crap I'll tell ya, glad to have it out of there.
