Pulled over - no turn signals

So I hate cops - sue me - got screwed once.....

Anyway - the young prick rookie has been following me around ever since I took the top off - may be he is gay or something -

Tonight he pulls me over and says he is writing me for a $125 failure to use my turn signal (but he can't because he is an indian and they can not write real tickets) I know that but he is young -

I am polite - (very difficult because the only good cop is a dead one - trust me I got screwed screwed)

The turn signals worked yesterday - they now are not doing anything - checked all the fuses - where is the control box on a 79 -

I apologize in advance to any good cops on this forum - especially Calamari - just tired of being followed around town...

Was there power on both sides of the fuse?

dont know if this will help,but on my 76 every once and a while mine dont work. i found that if i pull my emergency flashers out once and back in (on and off) that my signals then work, i think i need to pull it apart and clean the contacts. not sure if the 79 is the same but just an idea. good luck!

While I might lose the hate - I learned not to trust - way to much power in the hands of a few - usually the kid that got beat up in grade school. To give power to the uneducated few - to give the right to trash life to gain a promotion - sorry dude - cops have cops as friends ever wonder why? There arent many job descriptions that require loss of life. Cops have cops as friends b/c that seems like something not too many people can relate with.
That is why I have alot of respect for people in that line of work- firefighters, military, police.

I get frustrated too but I think Poser's comment is great, "loose the hate". It's just a waste of energy. You have great Cruisers and a great wife, you should be the happiest guy in the world! Be cool brudda.

Ha Ha Freight, you probably got red flagged by the Homeland security department for your comments! You'll be the guy at the airport next to me having to take off a lot of clothing before they will let you board the plane. (It always happens to me).

Not saying that there isn’t the occasional rotten apple in the bunch, but come on! I just lost a friend, a fellow Deputy, to the helicopter that was shot down in Iraq. Does that make him a good cop now? How about his wife and two young sons?

This guy was a great cop. He (and most) deal with stuff that most never want to see.

Check to see if your windshield wipers work (they should only work with the ignition switch in the on position). If they do, since the turn signals share the same wire/fuse, then the problem is probably in the hazard warning switch or the connection to it. The hazards work off of the stop fuse, which is always hot whether the ignition is on or off.

Since the hazards work, you know the flasher wiring and flasher is intact, because that stuff is common between the hazard and turn switch.

There is a branch in the wiring from the turn/wiper fuse (one side to the hazard switch, one to the wipers), and it is possible that the wire branch broke off but probably not. More likely, where the wire (Green with Red stripe--GR) goes into the hazard switch the contact is dirty/broken or whatever.

If you take the plastic connector off of the hazard switch you can test the GR wire and see if it is hot with a simple test light and ground: it should be with the ignition switch on. Use one of those miniature files you get in a set from the cheapo rack at the hardware store to clean the GR contact in the plastic switch. Clean the hazard switch side contact, too.

If the GR wire was hot this will probably fix your problem. If it doesn't fix it, your problem is within the Hazard switch itself. You can try getting in there yourself and fixing it, or get a new switch.

IF the GR wire is not hot, then you are back to a break in the GR wire somewhere along the line.

The only other (remoter, I think) possibility is that wires coming out of the turn signal switch somehow got pulled apart inside your column. You can look and see if they are pulled off, but I think you have to take the column apart to see. Should be 3 wires actually going in/out of the turn switch.

Grounding. When electrical things quit suddenly or work intermittently check that each part has a good ground.
These are old vehicles. Many of the devices depend on their mounting hardware for grounding to the body panels or the frame. The stuff rusts, corrodes, gets loose, or breaks causing the electrical things to act in mysterious ways.

Sorry for the cop rant - but after $35,000 in legal fees and a finally getting a cop busted for falsifying - I do get frustrated! I think what if I did not have $35,000 - what about the little guy - the Rodney King? I disagree - there are not "a few bad apples" - most are bad apples- Not the fault of the cop - the fault of the system - a system that pays little, and recruits the uneducated....like I said - sorry to all the good cops -

I am sure Homeland Security tagged me a long time ago - it will be a big bend over - that is why I live on the Rez and don't fly .....
