If you are disassembling the rollers for the fairlead you will need to use a torch and a shop press.
The long rollers have bushings on either end that are about 50mm long. You will not need to heat the entire roller, just each end. I used a 19mm impact socket to support the fairlead frame while I got the exposed end of the bolt pressed down into the roller. After that, a length of thick walled steel pipe for support. Use a steel bar to press once the bolt is inside the roller. It helps to add some lubricant into the roller once you get some space in there, its acts as a reservoir throughout the job.
After disassembly I noticed the the vertical bolts for the rollers came with at least 2 different thread pitches. Interesting, there would have to be 2 different part numbers to confirm this and could possibly help date a winch head.

Anyone know where to get the bushings for the fairlead rollers? Mine still roll but are very loose/rough feeling and i assume thats the issue. I'll be taking it apart in the next week or so.

I’m getting my rollers re-milled by a local shop to fit a standard McMaster Carr bronze bushing. To be honest if you’re going to replace them it might be worth going that route as well. I’m assuming you’ll be using a press to remove them? They fused on mine so we’re going straight to mill(er) time.

I haven’t looked for the originals. If the standard sites like SOR or CruiserOutfitters are neg, you could try Toyota Parts Deal. It is a crap shoot but I’ve been pleasantly surprised.

From what I’ve read the recomendation seems to be replacing them with bronze bushings for easy replacement and low wear on the bolts.

I just went out and checked the bottom roller and its stuck, i guess i only checked the top and sides before, so i'll be using a press to remove it. Do you have local shop you recommend in the Portland area? I'm in Oregon city.

Well, I was able to remove them in the driveway....luckily. I definitely found why the side rollers have so much movement. Can any tell me if looks looks factory? Based on how easy it was to remove the rollers I think someone has had them taken apart before.

The top and bottom roller fit perfect over the roller bolt leaving no space for a bushing. The sides have a "bushing/spacer" that is way to small but runs the entire length of the roller.

It's on an 1988 HJ61

P and J Machine on 22nd are the folks I’ve been talking with. Great father-son duo and fair prices.
 
I had a machine shop make replacements for the nylon bushings.
I bought some delrin and they turned and bored it to fit.

Ah no worries. Good to know the differences out there. Is the winch unit itself the same? I’ve seen “new” units available on Toyota parts deal so I wondered if Toyota either still made them or if with the newer 70 series units, there are lots of new stock
 
Just finished installing one on a HJ61 -'88
It is a HJ60 winch so now i have 5 gears out and 1 gear in :) . Wonder if it possible to just order the internal wormgears of a late model and replace them so it will be 5 in and 1out ??
Rebuild an old TJM bar so it will fit arounf the winch

That was also my first thought .
Problem is the center of the drum is not centered between the 2 horizontal rollers.
It sits lower so it will give you a very steep angle upwards and the cable will strive the roller cradle. Not good offcourse.
By replacing the 2 wormgears with the later version I could solve the problem.
The tread on these gears is reversed directed.
You can actually see the difference in the EPC in the drawings of the parts diagram.
On to 87 left thread.
88 onward right thread.
