couple picts.
i did not snap the gear box that bolts to the side of the split case. It is comeplete with all linkage.

Not included: the PTO gear. I've been told that many splitcases have the PTO gear already in them?

some picts... one shows the stick that comes through the floor. i will include the cute little rubber shifter boot.
The next show the winch and driveshaft. One shoes the frame extensions (if you have a 70/73/74/75 these will bolt on).

I feel that with very little fabbing skills, one could make this work on most split-case cruisers.

JFYI: the US split cases have a spacer instead of the PTO gear in the transfer case. many of the canadian and australian trucks and all of the central american ones have the gear in it.
cheers,

i'm pretty sure the gear can be sourced from SOR or MAF if that helps as a selling point. IIRC it was only around $40 bucks but don't hold me to it. Thats been a few years ago.

I've got one of these things on my 67 fj40 with a 3 speed. I love it!

The only reason i have not gone to a 4 speed tranny/case is because i want to keep the pto!

I kept my PTO winch when I switched my 68 to a four speed. It will bolt to any pre 8/80 stock one piece case. Well maybe not any, the early to mid 63 isn't a match. You need to switch the PTO gear in the transfer from a ten spline to sixteen spline. Those aren't to hard to find. I bought a spare A440F, split transfer case out of a FJ62 years ago and it came with the PTO gear which I found strange. With the dual CATS a PTO wouldn't clear the inner CAT. But the PTO gear is there.:meh:

sorry...when i said 4 speed i mean a 4speed SM465 and a more durable split case from an fj60

I've got a late FJ-60 H42/T-case (with the extension housing) that has the PTO drive gear inside it. I'd be amazed to learn that it wasn't from a US spec truck.

The split-case PTO gearbox is the hard part to find in this setup, no doubt. I've got a couple that I'll get around to selling later this year, but they aren't/won't be cheap.

gifu's setup here is a good deal, and as he says, can easily be made to fit a 40 series truck with some driveshaft mods, and some simple fab work in the front. If I was looking to put a PTO winch into a 40 with a split case, or a 60, I'd jump on this, they don't come up for sale very often (and that's even with me knowing for a fact that one or two will come up for sale later this year).

Is there a way to visually determine if one has a split t-case & PTO gear?

I just picked up an '84 HJ60 with H55 transmission. I'm not sure if I have a split t-case with the PTO gear.

If it fits, will this bolt up or will it need modifications for a 60 series?

FWIW SOR has the internal pto gear for the tcase for $75. Part 070-09C-U You also need this spacer 070-07S-U. The gear and spacer replace the long spacer in most FJ60.

Ive never seen the pto gear in a us 60 but most Ive taken apart are later models. I have found the gear in every FJ62 tcase though. Its really not that uncommon of a part if you dont have one.

If it helps anyone who buys this setup from Gifu I have the pto driveshaft setup from a 60.

Other than the driveshaft, what other modifications would be needed for a 60?

I don't think there is a hole or bolt on plate in the transmission hump, so probably that has to be drilled.
The bumper has to be compatible with the winch mounting, I don't know if yours is. But you can easily take the thin aluminum plate off that covers the winch housing in your bumper and measure it.
I don't know if the holes are there that hold the rubber 'bearing' brackets for the pto drive shaft. I would assume so, but I am not sure.

cheers,
Jan
