Yes, the only requirement is lengthening the drive shaft and shifter linkage to compensate for the longer tranny. I think all my PTO's were originally from 3 speed vehicles except of course the one on the BJ60 with the split case.

Steve; Charles...thanks for the info on the split and single piece case ptos; in my neck of the woods don't have access to either and have to rely on pix and y'alls help; easiest would be to go electric BUT there has been an upsurge of winch stealing in this area and :hhmm:believe it would be a lot safer to have a LC specific winch/pto that an easily removable and sellable electric :frown:

Easy to prevent theft of an electric winch, and mounting an 8274 Warn on the front of your 55 would be FAR easier than screwing around for the novelty of a Toyota PTO winch.

:meh:

Steve; there has been an upsurge of winch stealing in this area of Alabama and understand that electric ones are very sellable south of the border; don't think there would be that much of a market for toyota ptos down under the Rio G..........any ideas on preventing this; have thought about spot welding the bolts.......I get cold chills just thinking of coming back from a job site and finding the front end cut off with a torch or?...they have already tried to steal my pig once TIA

Lou

That is pretty aggressive man.

If someone wants something bad enough, they will figure out what it takes to get it, even if that means cutting your frame up or stealing your whole vehicle.

In the past for customers who were concerned about theft, I have welded pieces of tubing around the heads of the fasteners used to secure the winch so that you could not get a wrench/socket on them.

 the dude that tried to steal my pig was caught on a surveillance camera; police came and finger printed every thing and had a copy made of the movie....they have it so maybe they will snag him some day........ yep; he was very aggressive or maybe a bit foolish:hhmm:

I assume the bumper extensions are riveted on? The reason I ask is that my local pick and pull has a 55 that had a pto. It caught my eye by how far the front bumper stuck out from the grill. If it was an easy job, I'd grab them the next time I'm there.

Head back over there and look at it again. I do not remember running the torch rig to remove those frame extensions, but it has been quite a few years since I removed that bumper affair from the 55.

:meh:

not riveted, just bolted, I've removed 2 in the last 3 years.

I was out there today looking at those extensions again and could not find torch marks...and I know that I am not that good.

Provided they are both off a split case, and you have the PTO drive gear in your transfer case, it will work fine.

Steve; any way to tell if the TC has the pto drive gear? w/o pulling the cover; and if it does not have a pto drive gear are they available? and difficulty of installing one; my pig is my DD and don't wan't it to be down more than a weekend...TIA
