Does anyone know the size of the O-rings used in the 60/70 (and probably 40) series PTO boxes?

There are two sizes - one for the input gear shaft and lever shaft (3 in total) and one that lives inside the case where the shift shaft comes out of the front of the unit.

Unfortunately they are both 'flattened' slightly in cross section, so hard to match to a specific size. I think the larger one is non metric, BS114 but can't be sure. The smaller one is more distorted, possibly BS112.

NLA from Toyota.

Thanks
EO

I believe the one on the portion that comes through the front of the case should be 12mm.

The two on the idler shaft should be 30mm.

Those are educated guesses based on Toyota part numbers.

Thanks Onur, I was wondering about the part numbers - the smaller shaft is 13 mm in diameter, so a 12 mm O ring might work. The larger shafts are 20 mm though.

2x for idler gear shaft 90301-14030 as Onur suggested, 30mm? i dont have one in front of me

1x for input gear shaft 90301-14030

1x for front of push rod shaft behind dust boot 96710-02012 12mm?

Funny that you reply now, I have in the last few days been trying to get to the bottom of these O ring sizes. The first part number you mention is correct, the second one not (for a 1989 PTO it should be 96711-24012 which I think superseded 96710-01012). As I mentioned in my original post, Toyota have kindly discontinued both O rings.

Firstly, they are not BS (Imperial) sized O rings here, as is used in the brake proportioning valve for example.

From what I understand:

90301- are specific O rings for a certain application. 90301-14xxx will be a 14 mm (approx) ID O ring, but the other numbers have no dimensional meaning. So all I know is this is an O ring of betwen say 13.5 and 14.5 mm ID. It's hard to gague the dimensions of the original.

JIS O rings come in a range of thicknesses - 1.9, 2.4, 3.1 mm (and larger sizes rarely used on cars).

96711- are standard size O rings. For example, 96711-19013, as used in the vehicle's PAS pump, is 1.9 mm thickness and approximately 13 mm ID. The standard JIS IDs are 12.6 and 13.6 mm, so I would guess that it's 12.6 mm. So 96711-24012 is a 2.4 mm thick O ring of approximately 12 mm ID. There are JIS sizes of 11.8 mm and 12.3 mm so it really could be either. I am ordering a Suzuki 2.4 x 12.3 mm O ring (09280-12008) and hope that will fit. Otherwise I will need to find a decent quality 2.4 x 11.8 mm O ring.

I ordered Toyota 96711-24015 O rings, which will be 2.4 mm x either 14.8 mm or 15.8 mm, and I hope these will match the larger size O ring (they are for the later Toyota Dyna truck PTO box which gives some confidence.

I can confirm that the single O ring on the PTO input gear shift fork shaft is a standard JIS metric O-ring. ID 12.3 mm, CS 2.4 mm. The above mentioned Suzuki O ring is identical to the original and fits perfectly.

I am still not certain about the other 3 O rings, but I believe they are BS616 which have ID 15.08 mm, CS 2.62MM. I will get some of these in the coming weeks and report back.

The three larger O rings in the PTO box are BS616, which have ID 15.08 mm, CS 2.62 mm. Toyota 96711-24015 O rings are not correct (at 2.4 mm, too thin for the 2.5 mm groove on the shafts).
