Just wondering what your opinions are on the Pro's / Con's between a 1992 and 1993.

From my understanding the 1992 has R12 a/c system vs. 1993 having R134, etc. Any other differences that would be concerns as far as cost of maintenance goes?

Any other comments?

First off, welcome to mud. Second off, there are a plethora of answers to your question...I will let the pros handle this.

I realize I may have been a little too quick to ask - - I see now there are a ton of topics already posted on basically the same question. So I apologize for the redundancy!

welcome :flipoff2:

Yep little searching here and you will find all your answers :)

Massive differences.

:flipoff2:< official newb salute, you have come to the right place for answers though...

Basically the 92 is an FJ80 and the 93 is an FZJ 80.

92 has:
semi float rear axle, rear drums, no abs, no locker option(just the CDL)
4.0 L inline 6 (3FE)
Different Transmission and I believe different transfercase

93 has:
Full float rear axle, 4 wheel disks, abs (some 93 still had drums, no abs, and a semi float), as well as the locker option
4.5 L inline 6 (1FE)
Heavy duty 4Runner Tranny

There are also other differences, just search, and go with the 93+

after owing both a 92 and a 94, I gotta say there is a fairly big difference between the two.

I found that the 92 had more of a personality... a little rough around the edges, a little noisier, fewer creature comforts, more like what a true 4 wheeler or landcruiser should feel like. Built for the off road and simple rugged dependability.

The 94 on the other hand has more of the things that your wife is looking for in a vehicle (not that you won't appreciate these things also) like running boards, tinted windows, real carpet floors, leather and power seats, abs, wood trim, yadayada.
Its a quieter, smoother, more powerful rig with all the cosy touches that we all expect to have and can't do without in a vehicle these days.

Call me crazy but I liked my 92 more.....though my wife would disagree.:D

FWIW not all 94's had all the creature comforts. I have a cloth interior, no power seats, no roof factory roof rack..... and no lockers :crybaby:. But I love mine. (US Spec)

yeah..I know they all didn't have these options, but you know what i mean, these things weren't even an option on the US FJ80's.

I just wanted to give a personal take on the two versions...rather than just specs and physical changes.
