A wire wheel works well for removing left over insulation from the roof.
 
I like the look of my two-tone stock grey interior. I'd just remove the insulation and pop in a new, or cleaned headliner. The bare metal would look kinda like a Ford Econoline van, so I don't think I'd do it, but I need to see one to make a final decision.

It looks like a biotch to remove. My headliner is in bad shape as well. I was thinking the same thing about removing it. What do you do about the material around the windows and down the side rails!!
 
That insulation sucks...my crusier sits in the summer sun for an hour and its like a blast furnace radiating from the headliner.
 
sorry for the hijack,

3 putt get a full roof rack. mine has the mess floor and it throws a shadow on the truck. It's kinda like bringing along your own shade.
 
I saw this foam used to replace the liner on a BJ40.
Its a sound deadening foam and the dark colour makes it almost unnoticeable.

I suppose it glued into place.

For the headliner fabric along the "A, B, C and D" pillars, remove the pressed on rubber trim that goes around each door opening, there are a few small metal clips you can remove with a flat-head screwdriver or vise grips. The headliner fabric is held in place with adhesive in addition the the other stuff, peel up and edge of the fabric a tear it away. Where fabric runs up to windows the headliner fabric is tucked up under the gaskets and glued to the pinchwelds (the lip that the gaskets sit upon); you can just pull the fabric out from under the gasket, but you probably won't get it all. The bows (metal rods that go across the roof under the headliner supporting it) can be easy removed after the edges of the headliner are free and that's about it.
 
I found this looking on a German LandCruiser website, I am thinking about doing something similar to my cruiser. Not sure what model cruiser it is, but you can see the roof supports with the cloth/vinyl inserts inbetween each support. I figured someone else might be interested too.

Thats rather nice looking, i do prefer having some sort of covering for the roof. I don't know how much i would dig having nothing up there....thanks for the pic

Is it possible to repair a saging or broken bow without tearing the whole headliner out? I have one that sags down when I open one window, and create a negative pressure in the cab. Anyone else experience this wierd phenomenon? :confused:

They are friggin huge...it took some time the with grinder to get them to fit, that and two washers behind it. But they are on now, the bad was when i broke the brake line taking off the old calipers off. I needed to get the longer soft lines anyway, since i plan on breaking birfs like a mad man :beer:
 
I was out of town for a few days and on the way back from the surf trip i ran into a 62 with a perfect body and frame, the thing is the sucker had not run in 2 years(just guessing because of the expired tag).

Anyone know of anyone who dropped a 2f/h42 tranny in a 62? My guess would be fabbing mounts for the tranny and engine, which is not anything new since had to fab new mounts for the tranny thats in now. And wiring which would be a new one for me :doh:

I'm stuck at a cross roads. The Velveeta has dents and tiny bubbles under the paint on just about every body panel, it looks good from a distance ;) ...but i've destroyed all 4 doors offroading, rain gutter, hatch, and has rust bubbles around the rear glass on both sides above the quaters and on both side vents (the carb ones), and i have to weld in a whole new floor because of rust...

I almost think it would be easier finding a 62 or 60 with out much rust and drop my engine, tranny, axles, and all the other gooodies from my truck into that one. I think it would be almost better just starting with a whole new body, instead of locating doors, steel for the floor....and countless amounts of body work.

It was the plan to take the winter and fix each panel and paint the velveeta along with an exo-cage....but i am now leaning towards a body swap and exo-cage...

If you guys have anythoughts let me know...


So, far i had a spare hatch that i pulled the glass, drilled the press welds, and seperated to be rust bulleted inside and out... but swapping the body might be a cheaper deal...
