Well I have been watching mace's thread for months or is it years? :) I might as well see where another 60 is going crazy. I say it goes to the Hard core forum!

I thought about it, but I thought the 60's crew would like it better here. This weekend we are gonna start taking the 62 apart, if we get the 80 cut up and hauled off to the scrap yard.

lowride,
how come we never see a whole pic of your truck? i've searched and searched, and cant seem to find one. I'd love to see the profile, color. ect.

Put up the link to the thread of when you did ROTW in this section for your rig. Has all the pictures right there.

i love the pic of it in the creek bed.

Velveeeta Wag stats:
4.56
Aussie locked front & back
4 runner calipers
Rear discs
fj80 master
line lock
2lo
37 mtrs on bent 2.5 back spacing U.S. steel wheels
swing out
tranny, t-cas proection
ARB
8274,syn line, in cab controls
hand throttle
SOA on 2.5 inch lifts springs
Anti-inversion shacles f&r (2inch over stock)
1/8 steel cut up high Q'er panels
hellas
par-desmogged rocket ship 2f
Over the hill hi-steer
Thrashed body, broken birfs, broken and bent body parts and the list goes on...

And about a zillion little other things, like: longer soft lines for when ya break birfs you can set the caliper on top the axle,no rock/mud shields,re-built alxes, diffs, kunckles, carb, so and so forth, new toyo parts on all the engine crap like alternator, water pump , fan clutch, vac hoses etc etc...

I have spent more time on this truck then is sane and it will never really be done. there is always somthing to build better or nuttier.

After this project is done I am willing to bet Velveeta Wag turns into a full time rock crawler...as of right now and the last couple of years it have been my DD.

With any luck my buddy chuck D is coming this weekend to pick up the 80 and tomorrow at 8:30am I pick up the 62....I am so stoked to bring it home...

Hippie..

Do the FJ-80 and the FJ-60/62 share body mounting positions? (If you already covered this, sorry)

Nope they dont, not a single one.....its a bummer.

So you're going to relocate the pirches? Sounds fun. I would love to do this and I will be watching this thread.

This is one of the most ambitious projects I've heard about, or could even imagine. You make it seem like taking the 80 body off was a snap, though I doubt it could have been that easy (or was it??).
I'm still not very clear on the benefits of swapping bodies. Is the 80 frame/drivetrain that much better than the 60? I do think the 60 body is that much better than the 80. ;)

Good luck, very cool!

taking the body off wasnt all that bad...

as for the pros of the swap..

Coils-softer nicer ride
links-no spring wrap, less broken 3rds
bigger birfs-less breakage
high pinion 3rd- both good and bad
new rust free frame-very cool
wider wheel base
better brakes
longer wheel base- less over hang in the rear
h55- to be able to cruise at 80-85 mph on trips

I am just really happy about having a rust free truck...

This is an awesome project. Couple questions.......

How are you going to address the difference in wheel base ?

Does the 1FZ measure the same length as the 2F ?

How about the gas tank ? you going to use the 80 series tank ?

Its getting a 6 inch slee lift, So that will shorten it up enough to not be a problem. I am useing the 60 series tank...I hope to post pics tomorrow of the new to me 62.

You are going to be my IDOL when this is done!!

Today my buddy Jer came over to help cut up and haul off the 80 series. He is in the middle of building up an fj45, to bad he is in year 2 of his 30 year build (read:slacker)....Anywho we cut up and overloaded his s-10 twice and hauled the perfectly good 80 off to the scrap yard. the body weighed around 1500 lbs...

We got like 15 bucks for it and stopped on the way home at some fast food joint and spent it all:D I think an 80 series body is a good traded for 2 burgers and a chicken sandwhich:D

Hauling the 80 off mean bringing the 62 home. I freakin love this truck already, I already got some parts to change the dash over to a 60 series. Anywho its a rust free truck, with a perfect frame....i mean perfect(Velveetas gonna be happy about that). The former owner said it had a bad tranny and would over heat on the highway. BUt I put about a 100 miles of highway and around town driving on it and it worked great. The tranny is getting tossed for an h55 anyway. So, here the 62 sits awaiting to be taken apart. I hope to start in on it tomorrow somtime.

It was hotter then hell today. It was 90 with about 9000% humintity....The ocean is only a block away but its worth it.

We also stopped for a few minutes of rock crawling in my 80 series rock crawler...

Heres some pics...

Ride on guys...
