What it is:

I have an 82 BJ60 frame with front axle. The rear axle is a FF off an FJ45. The body is a 78 BJ40. The drivetrain is an 82 3B with high nickel head that was rebuilt a couple years ago and has less then 30 000km on it. It will be getting a junk yard turbo. The tranny is a JDM H41 and I have a 4spd split t-case.

What I have planned:

The tub of the 40 will be shortened about 20" giving me an extended cab 45 look. The front fenders will be high clearance tube fenders. I have a fiberglass hood. I am not sure of the back end as of yet...either a tray back or small flat deck of sorts. The frame has been shortened to the rear shackle and new cross members for up front. It will be a SOA with a SR. The front housing will be cut and turned and the rear FF housing will be lengthened on the long side to match the 60 series front. It will have front and rear firing 8274s. I am using 4x4 labs high steer with a 60 series box and hydro assist. The engine is going back about 10" from it's stock location and is being dropped as low as possible between the frame rails. When money permits it will get a toybox so that I can adapt the H41 to the split case.

I hope this is hardcore enough for here. It's my first crazy project. I hope after I pass my safety to four link the rear.

Anywho, I have an 8274 for up front and would like to do the same for the back. I am just not sure on how badly things get beat up on the rear of a truck and how low I can hang things. Right now I have moved the rear shackle mount ahead two inches and have the frame cut at the shackle mount. I am not goinh to have a 90 degree departure angle.

Is dropping the winch down 4"-6" between the frame rails going to hurt me?

What other things should I consider while doing this.

I'll post up pics of the back when I get them today. Here are a few shots of the work in progress.

The mess I started with back in 04. You can see the very limited space I had. Fortunately we built a new garage...

From that you can see where I am headed in these pics. New garage and 5 years later. My biggest hurdle was getting the H41 with a one piece case to match up to a split case. As of today I have that problem taken care of thanks to Marlin Crawler and FJ-Rankestein!!

getting the front brakes and axle housing cleaned up. Marlin gussets and inner seals (you are crazy to use anything else)

I just need to get them powdered and installed. Axle housing needs a quick blast and paint. Next up is assembly of the front end. Just waiting on some brake lines.

Hope you enjoy the build.

Cool project...I will be following cause I had pondered doing this with my v8 FJ 60....

I have no answers for you but a very sweet project none the less.

Well it's been very slow, but I have built a garage and got married, so....

Anyways, looking over all the great builds on here and watching D'Animals build has got me motivated to get going on it. It will be slow but I am going to make progress.

Well, from what I hear, in typical Marlin fashion, my order was completely screwed up. I got a handful of wrong parts. On to trying to get that sorted out.

But in the mean time, I got what I had all cleaned up and blasted. Just waiting for more Toybox parts to get it all together. I didn't document dismantle as it is pretty straight forward. I will do a detailed photo shoot of it going back together.

Thanks to fj-rankenstien for the mini truck case!!

Hey Brad .. it's so nice .. but it make a clue .. those are not the Marmaduke tires ? if are it .. where it's your beauty 61 ..? :frown: please don't make me cry !

Just one note .. I thought the 8274 style wich could be a little complicated for the rear .. coul use something cheap ( you can sell the warn winch ) like a MM with a flat XP style .. ( 9 - 10 k lbs could function pretty well )

You would fit 4.88 on those axles .?
Nuce proyect dude ..

Fixing old rusty land Cruisers really sux. You guys in the south have it made.

The axle housing and parts are painted. The Toybox is going back together. The rear is getting the FF out of my 61. Hopefully I will get going on this in the next couple of weeks.

hey man,

i've got an inner and outer rocker from ccot (i think) that has a coat of surface rust on it. if it's a drivers side, would you be interested?

also, does that 4" rise pretty much mimic the stock height of the rise in the 40 tub?

Thanks for the offer but I am going to try and make a rocker/slider out of the mess.

Hi Simon. The hood came out of the mines. It needs some work but is super strong and about the same weight as the steel.

No Rivershiver for me this year. What about yourself?

l haven't wheel much the last two years,l was visiting family in Malaysia and singapore last summer with 3 kids and the wife,no BHCC either,no rivershiver this year.
sold my 60 last week, needs to fix rust holes, take the front ARB locker, the winch and the mark's 3.1 gear out, hope it will past safety next week , 'cos l didn't get what l wanted.
And l am doing a BJ42 project almost like yours,80 series axles with lockers,H55,toybox with 4.7,40" mtrs with 5.29s,the rear half of the body was rusted,l tubed the rear just behind the seats and lined with aqualu aluminium side panels and lexan floor.
can yo utell me how to post pictures here.

I told you this was going to be a slow build!

This bad boy showed up today. It's for an Isuzu... I hope to make it work on a Toyota!!

It's pretty close. Only two holes need a little massaging.

I am looking hard at the garrett gt2052 if I go new

If I go used, volvo or thunderbird T3 with A/R .42

Here is what I have been up to. After this gets set into place and the axles get under the truck, I am going back to the 'Duke.

I also need to complete a bracket for the OBA. A york fitted on the lower left side.

Almost complete:

And tranny and toybox with new AL bell housing:

what is that manifold off of? i know you said isuzu but what kind? and looks like a T3 flange on it?

It's off of the 4bd-t

I am going to have to get it on an end mill after christmas to see if I can get it to work. The bottom holes line up, the top is going to be close to keep them in the ears.
