You work? I figured you had a sugar momma. Man I've never seen anyone move so fast on a project like this before. GREAT WORK!! I'm going to watch this one. I love the 4.7 in my dad Tundra. Its like a race car. This is going to be an awesome rig.

Very impressed, especially swapping out the female ECU connectors. Keep up the good work and the pictures, I dream of doing this swap someday.

I've been thinking about doing this swap for years. Thanks for taking the time to post this up so I can look over your shoulder.

So why are you swapping ECU connectors on the Tundra ECU? What harness are you using for the engine? What tranny are you going to run? Make sure and use a 00 Tundra wiring diagram because they are very different from other years. I have tons of electrical notes from my swap. Very simple and straight forward electrically with the proper documents.

I was told its safari edition but have no idea what that is or how to tell.

If it's wearing one of those safari hats and Magnum PI shorts.

Thanks for the compliments guys. They motivate me even more:bounce:

I want an 80..bad.

How's the motor mounting to the 80?

Do you have to weld/make custom mounts?
Im going to cut some 3/16" plate and make basic mounts for the block to go into the factory frame mounts.

I second this, I would pay you for step by step directions and info, I want a v-8 BAD!!!!!!!!!!

Sethro
Hopefully there will be enough info here that transfers over between years

I do work. I had a fire lit under my ass recently to get a drivable wheeler done. Due to some fun snow wheeling.

Very impressed, especially swapping out the female ECU connectors. Keep up the good work and the pictures, I dream of doing this swap someday.
The funny thing is, I may not end up using the connector now

I joined the TIS site for two days and DL'd a sh1t ton of stuff for all four of my yota products. I had the 03' EWD and knew it was way different just based on my 00' not being DBW.
Im not swaping the connectors on the ecu. I pulled that female connector because I had intentions of using the FJ ECU Plugs to hook up the peripherials but as luck would have it I think they will go thru the IE1 and IE2 Tundra harness and the IH1-2 and 3 FJ harnesses.

Subscribed.

That block looks like crap... but hopefully the oil pump bushing is good. I'll be by soon to pickup that block. Hopefully it will be a cheap way to fix my beater.

Looks good James. Completely jealous of your skills.
Let me know when you want to come by. Engine hoist standing by.

Not alot of progress to report tonight. But when I ventured into this project I promised myself that I would do at least one thing each day, even if it was only tracing a single wire.

Tonight I sorted thru the FJ harness and created a list of what colors wires and functions each pin does based on the EWD.

I want to start splicing harnesses together, but I think I really need to have the motor in first.

The other problem is that im not 100% sure what to do for a transmission yet. I know SuperRunner created an adapter for his rig to use the stock trans.

I really need to get the tundra parts over here so I can test fit a few things.

What I would like to do is put the tundra bellhousing on the FJ trans and keep the t-case stock like Rob but there are several combinations of torque converters and varying depths, that may make this combo viable without an adapter...but not certain yet.

The other option is to with the a343 right off the bat. Then im not clear on the TCM and shifter requirements of this vs a a750f since it will have different shifter detent requirements being a 5spd auto vs 4spd.

Heres the begining of the harness

I got the motor pulled from the tundra last night.

Let me say I have a new found respect for the guys who work on auto projects outdoors in the weather.
I've never worked on anything outside in the mud before.
It sucked. My buddies carport was pouring muddy rainwater down on us while wrenching under the cab in the dark :bang:

Ever try moving and engine hoist with a motor and transmission over a water logged 4'x8' sheet of 3/4" ply . The wheels bust thru the wood. Super lame. It took almost 2hours of wrestling with the damn thing. Would have taken less than 30minutes in my garage.

Im going thru some dilema's about how to move the empty cab out of the way so I can get the engine out of the carport.

Im also going thru some transmission confusion right now.
Ill talk it out. If anyone has input PLEASE chime in.

The Tundra's A340F cant take a HF2AV transfer case so
the plan was to mate up the A442F to the 2UZ. But now im thinking how would I go about getting the kickdown cable on the 442 to work on the tundra throttle body ? Will the shift points be controlled by the 2UZ engine ECU or the TCM ?

The empty carcass

Grab an A343F or A750F. Rob made his A750F work somehow, you could PM him about it.

The kickdown cable won't work with the engine. That's why Rob did an A750F. He's also got a D-3-2-1 shifter, instead of D-2-1.

I've been googling all afternoon.
I think the 343 is how im leaning right now.
Its a 4spd so my D-2-1 will still work.

Im still not sure about the TCM though. If the tundra ecu and shift points will be compatable with the 343 vs the 340 it is currently mated to.

Rob's motor is a VVTi and came with a 5spd so thats why his worked out with the 750.

Back to google :hhmm:

Hmm... forgot the 343 TCM is integrated into the ECU.

subbed, and send you an e-mail on tranny info.

Also, your kickdown cable....not really a kickdown cable. This cable increases line pressure during acceleration. So you still need to get it hooked up, but you can easily connect it to your throttle pedal instead of the TB.

I also really like my jumper harness. I have done many many swaps, and using a jumper harness seems to be one of the best way of doing these.

Yes you need to destroy your old motor harness, and you need a donor vehicle for the other connectors, but it is worth it. The reason why is troubleshooting. You don't need a custom pinouts and diagrams to be able to go back through your work if there are any problems. The fact that you are using factory connectors for the vehicles and motors you are working with, you can just consult the factory manuals and use the FACTORY pinouts and color codes to troublshoot. This also allows later, if you sell the vehicle(which I am) for others to troubleshoot the wiring without too much difficulty.

Good luck on the swap.

^ Thanks for the quick response Rob. I'll keep it at email for now and ill debrief the folks here with a post.

I'm using all the factory connectors for the cruiser and the tundra to make a "fields" type adapter. all pnp.
I have the harness started but stopped due to the confusion im having chosing a transmission. I wasnt sure how much wiring will end up being needed.

I should be finishing up with my fields adapter by wednesday. I got the cruise control working a couple days ago(last wiring project). Requires resistors into a single wire on the ECU instead of 4 separate inputs, but you are a ways from that.

The harness looks like a mutated spider, and is rather large, but it makes for cleaner and more robust setup. I am going to have to modify the glove box in order to fit it all.

Wow this is fantastic.

On the tranny, could you go with a 1998 or 1999 uzj tranny ecu combo? That way you get the h24 transfer case and the 343? For that, matter shouldnt any old 343 bolt right up?

Knorrena, for my swap specificaly I cant go with the 98-99 trans ecu combo because my motor isnt vvti so If I understand correct the ecu would be looking to talk to the tcm and wouldnt have the info it needed to send the proper shift signals.

EDIT: on the bright side I just found an A343F at a local wrecker for way too much money. I should have it in my hands thur
just in time to install the day before xmas

But with the 2uz ECU, the TCM is built in, so you can ditch the 1FZ TCM all together. Besides the shift points will be all wrong anyway.
