Here are the bellhousings
The 2uz is obviously a different bolt pattern but the oil pump body from a A343 is the same size as the A340.

The 442 is just massive. You can see why people call them the "bus" trans its gotta be 1.5x the size of a AW4 housing.

The early 2UZ's relied on a separate TCM to send the transmission signals just like the FJ did.

Really? You sure about that? Will just require a little extra wiring if that is the case.

The valvebodys swap over. Does anyone see know the difference or see why I cant just swap over the 340 onto the 343 so the tcm can control the trans w/o the tv cable ?

e-mail me the ect wiring. I have it downloaded for a 2005, but not for your year. I bet it is in the same unit.

ALso, I see no problem swapping over the valve body. I put a TT supra VB on my N/A GS300 and it worked fine. As long as the pressure holes line up you should be good.

Yup, wiring shows that it is in the same unit. Notice the ECU in the diagram, it says "Engine Control Module", and if you were to compare the pinout numbers for the gerneral stuff like BATT, +B, oil, and others, they are the same pin.

Well fawk. Thankfully your here to rescue me from myself. So this may work out good then. I havent traced all the pinouts yet. I printed them and pulled the harnesses apart. I wanted to make sure I had the transmission bs worked out before I went any further.

Im going to the store to see about gaskets and filters for the trans before I button it up and get everything mounted.

Nice set of photos there. You can really see how much bigger the 442 is in relation to the other transmissions.

Removing the one unessary 442 transmission plug and wires from the loom and leave the one plug for the t-case that will still tie into the stock FJ harness. (i'll list the plugs later)

Yea so...I started digging in, to clean some of the oxidized aluminum and paint up a few parts...

DSC08417.jpg

WTF ! So yea There was about 3" of nest material that looked like a rat may have been present. There were pieces of egg shell...but no wiring had been eaten.

Before you say anything, I know that sh1t isnt supposed to go into the head. I may pull the heads to check the motor... :hhmm:

I'd check the contacts / condition of that starter motor while you're in there. They are a bit of a bear to dig out after you have the whole thing buttoned up again!
BTW... how long had that truck been sitting before you got your hands on it?

On the starter im going to do the brushes, rebuild the soleniod and check the bearing since there is rust in there.
Replace all the gaskets
Timing belt
Water pump
Plugs
Thermostat

Anything else you guys can think of other than a TRD blower and a 5.5L big bore kit that im leaving off ?

Holy crap, is that the starter motor that is under the intake?

I would clean everything up, maybe add a layer of paint as it makes it easier to work on later down the road.

Yea the starter is under the intake. Its actually not as bad as you would think. Just have to get to the back of the block, just above the bellhousing to get to the two 14mm bolts. The upper intake manifold and the throttle body come off with a series of 14mm nuts and bolts.

Im going to paint alot of parts. Im going to powder coat a few parts. And im going to sand blast and give those parts the "cast" finish. When its done I dont want it to look like a "junk yard" build.

Got the block cleaned and nest free

Anyone have recomendations on color scheme for this engine bay ?

:wrench:

supra blue would be nice but kinda ricy IMHO. Go with a red or glass black. But if you wanted to go truly toyo retro than go with the early FJ40 block color. I think it was a turquoise color if Im not mistaken.

Anything will look nice.
