Cool build, must of missed this one.

That cage looks awsome, might have to pick one up if I buy landpimps 1965 FJ40 for a diesel build.

Whats next for this build??

I need to get all the engine and battery stuff sorted out. Then onto the spring over and 4 link coils in the rear. Going with an e-locker in the front also.

El Bandito gives you a big thumbs up! How bad was the shipping to get the cage up here? Going to paint the cage black when you're done?

Made some more progress yesterday

El Baaaaannnnnnnddditoooo!

It wasn't bad. I think 90 bucks to the frieght terminal or 144.00 to my house. I chose the terminal, but will it have shipped to my door next time. IH8Traffic

I was going to follow the front spreaders all the way back to the cargo, but decided to go the angle route. Should I put one down the center between the center or would that be overkill?

The compound corners have taken some time to get right. Take your time and get the joints to line up.

Rear cargo tube added. Started from the top lip of the body and angled it back at 40 degrees.

I put the handles up high. Didn't like them down low.

Here is the other cargo area spreader.

So the cage is in except for the frame tie ins. I will do that once the exhaust is finished. I'm still waiting for suspension parts. On to engine mechanical tasks.

Winch and winch bumper mounted. Replacing the wincline. The winch is a Warn 8375. Made in 1973 and parts interchange with an 8274. The only difference is that the 8375 doesn't allow you to free spool. I only have an in and out option.

Looking good. The roll cage is coming along nicely.

Great writeup on the cage! Should be kept in FAQs or tech, maybe?

I'm not sure from the photos, but it looked like the A pillar hugs the real close from the floor up to the first bend on the passenger side, but is a little further from the door frame on driver side. I'm I just seeing things? If I'm not seeing things could it have gone the other way - tighter, away from clutch, on driver side?

Reason I ask is that I'm wanting to keep the pillar from interfering with my clutch foot. My old cage (long gone truck) brought the A pillar down too far over from the door and as far forward as possible. It made driving a lot less fun than it should have been because yyou always had to twist the foot in a weird way to use the clutch without also catching the edge of a boot on the brake pedal.

Here are a few pics with my size 14s. No interference with the clutch - leg angle. I can also shut my doors without hitting the cage. It took me about 40 minutes total getting the A pillar attach points in the right place.

Nice build-up! That cage looks sweet! Keep up the awesome work!

Thanks for taking the time to post this thread, pictures are fantastic.

You seem to have cut and grinded more than I thought would be necessary. Isn't the kit shipped ready to be welded together?

I am a novice when working with metal and think this may be above my head.

Thanks,

The kit is fish mouthed on one end and a little longer on the other. It allows you to customize the size and placement of the cage. You will have to cut to length and notch (fish mouth) the other end before you can tack it together.

It is a pretty detailed job

Bull, great right up. I used to live up in Mill Creek and now down in SOCAL. What kind of work are you in? Beautiful rigs.
